Open Question

No spark firing

I have a 2002 Daewoo Leganza the plugs want fire, I have changed the coil pack and the CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR and the cam sensor , and the spark plugs steal want fire, Does any one have a Ideal what it could be. ??

    Fixed!!!! my son found it When you put the car in Park(P) it want fire but put it in (N) it will start it was a bad switch on shiftier. Thanks

    Fixed it was the swich on the shifter it starts in (N) but not (P)

Standing at the licenst plate. Remove the plastic shroud on top of the engine (closest to you) and unbolt the metal box directly below it you can gain access to the front three. As for the back, remove the connector and screw at the 7 o'clock position off to the side of the dist cap. You CAN reach the back three with two 6 inch socket extenders and without remvoing any other engine parts. Should take 30 min regardless of experience. I just did mine and I'm not a mechanic (06/27/07). Answer Hey, I'm not sure if the answer involving removal of the valve covers, and appearently everything else in the engine compartment, is misleading on purpose but...... all you need to do on the 4 cylinder Cougar is pull the wires out by their bases and use a long exstension on your socket. I'm not sure what this guy was trying to do but I hope not too many people followed his advice!! The answer from Greg was exactly correct. Answer To remove the spark plugs, remove the covers and you will see how simple it really is. The spark plugs are hiding under the covers. Greg Hasen Not only you will have to lift the covers, but to reach the back three you will have to remove the valve cover. Here's how to: 1. Remove the water pump belt cover (the black cover in the front of the engine compartment that has ?Duratec? on it.) If you have a 1996+ vehicle, you should think about removing it permanently, since it only serves to trap heat and slowly kill the IMRC box electronics. 2. Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the: MAF, IAT, TPS, IAC, and EVR. The EVR connector is black and is located at the very back of the upper plenum, next to the firewall. 3. Disconnect throttle cable from the TB and the cruise control cable, if equipped. For 1995 5-speed vehicles, take care not to lose the metal clip for the throttle cable when you are removing it. Once the cable is removed the clip will slide right off. 4. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the EVR. You may have to wait until the upper intake is unbolted and partially removed for better leverage. 5. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the top of the upper intake. Push down on the black plastic collar with a screwdriver and hold, and then pull the plastic line out of the intake. 6. Remove the air box along with the MAF and accordion tube. 7. Unbolt the throttle cable bracket from the upper intake (three 8mm bolts, one 10mm nut). Set bracket and attached cables aside. 8. Disconnect the air bypass hose at the upper intake. It connects right next to the IAC valve. 9. Disconnect the hose from the PCV valve that goes to the upper intake, underneath the throttle body. This is also a good time to change the PCV valve. 10. Unbolt the EGR valve from the upper intake. 11. Unbolt the upper intake. 12. Carefully remove the upper intake and set it on top of some clean rags or newspaper. It will likely be oozing some oily gunk out the bottom. 13. Cover the openings of the lower intake with clean rags to keep anything from falling into the openings. Anything that falls in will likely end up in the head or the cylinders themselves. Now you are free to remove the back plugs. Hope this helps Jesus

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good.
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse.
If you having a problem with more than one system, I want to check for rpm signal, that usually comes from the crank sensor. Not sure why you replaced cam sensor? I always want to check sensor wiring circuits before replacing anything. Don't replace anything unless your testing points in that direction.

EF ford on gas cranks but will not fire have changed coil pack and have power to the main loom (plug) to coil pack


Check crank position sensor or cam position sensor if applicable. Is it actually sparking? If so either its not being told when to fire or there is something else telling it there's no fuel etc. Check the relay box for fuel relay etc.

The Cam Shaft position sensors job is to send a signal to the coil to tell it to fire the spark plugs, it will be located under the timing belt cover.

Coil pack is firing on two cylinders


Check for cracked or grounded out spark plug wires.If one of the wires of the other two cyylinders is grounded out it will not let the coil build a charge for ignition.

Sounds like it is either a bad coil pack, cam position sensor or crank position sensor. The coil pack delivers the spark to the plugs and the 2 sensors tell the computer when to tell the coil pack to spark.

Laganza wont fire or pulse injectors


Check the timing belt which might be broken--if so, there will be severe valve and piston damage to cope with. If the belt is intact, then you may have a bad crankshaft or camshaft sensor, either of which will cause loss of ignition and injector action. Good luck!

Timing the cams and crank with a belt


  1. Note: Electronic Ignition engine timing is entirely controlled by the PCM. Electronic Ignition engine timing is NOT adjustable. Do not attempt to check base timing. You will receive false readings.

The CKP sensor is used to indicate crankshaft position and speed by sensing a missing tooth on a pulse wheel mounted to the crankshaft. The CMP sensor is used by the COP Integrated EI System to identify top dead center of compression of cylinder 1 to synchronize the firing of the individual coils.
  1. The PCM uses the CKP signal to calculate a spark target and then fires the coil pack(s) to that target shown in Figure 51. The PCM uses the CMP sensor not shown in Figure 51 on COP Integrated EI Systems to identify top dead center of compression of cylinder 1 to synchronize the firing of the individual coils.
  1. The coils and coil packs receive their signal from the PCM to fire at a calculated spark target. Each coil within the pack fires two spark plugs at the same time. The plugs are paired so that as one fires during the compression stroke the other fires during the exhaust stroke. The next time the coil is fired the situation is reversed. The COP system fires only one spark plug per coil and only on the compression stroke.

    The PCM acts as an electronic switch to ground in the coil primary circuit. When the switch is closed, battery positive voltage (B+) applied to the coil primary circuit builds a magnetic field around the primary coil. When the switch opens, the power is interrupted and the primary field collapses inducing the high voltage in the secondary coil windings and the spark plug is fired. A kickback voltage spike occurs when the primary field collapses. The PCM uses this voltage spike to generate an Ignition Diagnostic Monitor (IDM) signal. IDM communicates information by pulsewidth modulation in the PCM.
  1. The PCM processes the CKP signal and uses it to drive the tachometer as the Clean Tach Out (CTO) signal.

The ignition system consists of an ignition coil, spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The crankshaft position sensor signal is the basis for ignition timing calculations. The alternating voltage signal from the crankshaft position sensor is digitized by a pulse former within the powertrain control module. This digitized signal is then used to position the closing time of the primary circuit of the ignition coil.
Ignition timing is determined by the powertrain control module in response to engine operating conditions based on stored data tables or maps. Once ignition timing has been determined, the powertrain control module interrupts the current to the primary circuit of the ignition coil thus triggering the ignition spark which is supplied to the cylinders through the spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The ignition coils are triggered by the powertrain control module in pairs (cylinders 1 and 5, cylinders 4 and 3 and cylinders 2 and 6) sending one ignition spark to the firing cylinder and one ignition spark to the corresponding cylinder on the exhaust stroke. This ensures that any unburnt fuel residues remaining in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke are re - ignited to provide cleaner exhaust emissions.

Integrated Electronic Ignition System The Integrated Electronic Ignition (EI) System consists of a crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, coil pack(s), connecting wiring, and PCM. The Coil On Plug (COP) Integrated EI System uses a separate coil for each spark plug and each coil is mounted directly onto the plug. The COP Integrated EI System eliminates the need for spark plug wires but does require input from the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.

I cant get spark out of the coil pack


cam sensor fires the injectors to synchronise injector pulsing with the spark at the spark plugs.. U need to probably change the crankshaft sensor (around the crank pulley) as the crank sensor is what controls the ignition spark.

Daewoo lanos 2000 car is misfiring and wont run properly firing on cylinders 1 and 4 misfiring


have you changed the ignition wires? perhaps firing order crossed? if not coil pack or ignition wires faulty how do you know it is not "FIREING" on 1 & 4 have you tested it with a spark tester tool???
