It overheats after a continuous drive of about 100kms


There are items you need to check.
1. Is the cooling system losing coolant. If so the engine will overheat and you need to find the location of the leak. It may be internal to the engine or an external leak from a hose, a water pump seal or a crack in the radiator or a failing radiator cap.

2. Is the electric radiator fan coming on when the engine coolant temperature increases? If the coolant is getting hot the fan or fans should be running. If not your need to detect the cause of the fan not starting .

3. You may have a partial blockage in the radiator with a build up of debris which is slowing coolant flow through the radiator or a partial blockage in the cooling jackets in the engine. Coolant needs to be removed from the engine every few years, the radiator flushed out and then new coolant is added to the system.

I have a 2011 Chevrolet impala and my coolant in the reservoir is evaporating within a months time of being filled. What could be the problem? Water pump?


Start with a "professional" coolant system flush. Sounds like there's a blockage somewhere. If you're putting coolant in the resevoir and not directly in the radiator, and it's disapearing, check the radiator. If radiator is full it's a blockage, if it's low/empty there's a leak.

it sounds like you have a air blockage, or the cooling system needs flushed. to flush system go to ( autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/coolant_f...) click on 3rd one down. remember to bleed air out of system, this works the best. turn heater and blower on high, start adding coolant. start car let it idle till radiator thermostat opens. when top radiator hose gets hot you should have heat. some vehicles have a bleeder to let air from system. when filling putting coolant in system. if it does, then open bleeder while engine running and putting in coolant untill there are no air bubbles coming out. have a good day !! when doing flush if need be. you can go to any auto parts store and buy radiator flush. follow directions on the back ( prestone is best )

Low coolant warning light came on and won't go off. even after i added dex coolant


could be a bad tstat...they cause hickups then they stick open. Also could be a blockage somewhere in the cooling system. Just guesses

I have a 1986 gmc 4x4 pickup, the heater box only blows lukewarm air not even enough at tmes to defrost window, i replaced the heater core, the thermostat i think its somewhere inside can u please help, is...


the thermostat is going to be located in a coolant hose. usually the bottom left one if you are looking under the hood. bad thing is is that you will have to also replace coolant. which is a good thing, just a little bit more money. take off the coolant hose off from the block, not the radiator and you should be able to see it. it should be a metal part with a spring in the middle of it.

I have a 97 sunfire. it keeps overheating.the thremastat is good.fans workin.the guage satys normal but when drivin you can watch gauge rise.is there a temperture centor on them.if any hints you can help...


You May have a blockage somewhere in your cooling system, What I would reccommend is a Coolant flush if that doesn't work a Trained technician may need to look at the electrical portion of your vehicle as this is a relatively common elctrical problem that may be occuring.

Engine hot


First of all you need to check your coolant return bottle level, it's probably low, and needs coolant added. Heater will be starved for coolant, if level is low, thus, cool/cold air comes out. Try to add when engine is cool, to avoid getting sprayed with hot coolant. Leave cap off for a while, turn your heater on (not defrost) and let engine run up to temperature, and add more as needed while you watch level. Rev engine slightly and hold it for 5 seconds or so, every once in a while to help circulate coolant, and remove any air in system. If you have an actual rad cap, that you can remove and watch flow in radiator, that's even better, for adding and bleeding air out same way. Make sure your rad fan is working as well, and once you get it topped up, and heat back working, I'd seriously consider having a system pressure test done, as you obviously have a leak somewhere if the level went down to the point of overheating, and heater was starved for coolant. Keep an eye on that return bottle level until such time you have it checked, to avoid more damage to engine.

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line,this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling,pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.
