The daytime lights turn on when the engine is running but if its dark the headlights will not turn on and not even the cluster plus the high beam flasher stays on and this drains the battery.

My 97 metro DRL headlights wont come on what causing this ?

DRL control module , maybe . Go to free wiring diagrams . To find out what is causing the problem electrical testing needs to be done . Videos on youtube ,basic automotive electrical testing , how to read a wiring diagram , how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . Check B+ voltage to the DRL control module and the ground circuit as well .Also check pin #1 at the DRL control module , this is low beam signal circuit .

Where exactly is the fuse box located on a 1988 suzuki samurai

easy , stuff and answered 100 of times.
here goes again

there are 2 boxs, the main in engine bay
and one in cab.
the FSM covers this.

does car have DRL? lamps, like mandated in canada????
are both head lamps dead? there are 2 fuses.
so how would both blow left and right.
F1 is right
F2 is left head. fuse.

here is more.
when you push head light FLASH lever do the high beams work>
must do so , with DLR or none
the above schmatic works for DLR and non DRL.
as you can see if the resistor burns up, (DRL) lows go dead in DRL mode only but work if you turn on HL to on.

tell more get more...
the drawing is free.

the fsm covers box location, look under dash yet.
seems not.

How to fix no lowbeam headlights on 97 geo metro

did you check the HL fuses? x2
are both dead? or just one?
Highs work , right,?
would you like to guess, ?
or test? have a volt meter, and a schematic.?
DRL or non DRL system? (daylight running lamps).
2 systems, DRL is mostly in CANADA but no always,
when did they both last work, dont know, or last week>???
if dont know, why not test the lamps to see if they are good
using any 12vdc battery over 5amp current.
or use and OHm meter on the filaments, for lows. 0 ohms good
infinity bad.
to go father, we need what type HL system is on car.
DLR or not. DLR love to fail. for sure.

Daytime running light module location 2001 impala

The daytime running lamps in your 2001 Chevrolet Impala are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) Here is a description of how the system works:

The ambient light sensor is a light-sensitive transistor that varies its voltage signal to the Body Control Module (BCM) in response to changes in the outside (ambient) light level. When the BCM receives this signal, the BCM turns ON either the DRL or the headlamp relay for auto headlamp operation. Any function or condition that turns ON the headlamps will cancel the DRL operation.
Thirty seconds after you start the ignition with the headlamp switch set in the OFF position, the DRL will perform one of two actions:

Illuminate the high beam headlights at a reduced intensity in daylight conditions
Illuminate the low beam headlights in low light conditions
The DRL/EXT lamps fuse in the top of the engine fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to both the DRL switch contacts and to the DRL relay coil. When the BCM energizes the DRL relay coil, current flows through the right high beam lamp, to the left hand high beam lamp, to the energized DRL relay switch contacts, to ground G101.
The high beam headlamps are now in series, and split the voltage so that the headlamps illuminate at halt intensity. The DRL operates when the ignition switch is in the RUN position, and the parking brake is not set or the transmission is not in park. When these conditions have been met and the ambient light sensor indicates daytime conditions, the DRL will illuminate.

Headlights wont work properly

Sounds like you have a problem in your headlight switch. As far as them staying on sometimes when you shut the car off are you referring to daytime running lamps or the regular headlights? If it's daytime running lamps that like to stay on and your headlights do not like to turn on then there could be a combination of headlight switch and daytime running lamp relay.

It is possible the relay gets the signal from the headlight switch as well, since they generally turn off when you turn your headlights on.

Anyone know where the relay is for the day time headlights on a 96 sidekick are? My day lights do not come on at all. My head lights will not come on untill I pull my parking break part way on.

For the daytime running lamps crawl under the dash on the drivers side, and check the plug. It should be a black box. they have a tendance to burn one of the pins and lose contact.
If its not bad you can just clean it up so that it makes good contact again, worst case is you would have to replace the plug. sometimes the module goes to.
Note: The lights are powered “backwards” to most American made cars. The headlights are supplied power at all times and are turned on by suppling ground to the filament through the switches and relays.

I can see how a DLR controller could cause a lack of DLR, and a headlight relay could cause a lack of headlights (Both high and low but not the passing lights.)

Good luck and hope this helps. NOTE: Be sure you know what you are doing before attempting this! You could easily burn up your wiring by grounding the wrong wires!

DLR's not on

have you tried replaceing your lights? i believe on some cars, the running lights are actually the high beam filament with a low voltage running thorough it, to save the filament. check them, but dont buy it if it dosent need it. check your electrical connections to the lights. but if they were loose, then your light wouldn't come on at all, even at night. i guess it depends on how its all set up. if you have seperate DLR's or ones built into the headlight.
