This could be the O2 sensor. But rather than guessing the part, it would be better to get the codes read to locate the exact problem.

sound like something killing your engine when was the last time that you change your fuel filter might be causing it..

You have a fault somewhere on the car which triggers the engine lights..Now if it is check engine light then you need to have a computerised diagnostic done.
