2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loud Humming

My jeep is making a loud noise after sitting idle for a few mins - maybe 5 mins. It sounds like a jet plane revving up. If I shut the car off I can hear it winding down. Then restart and it is ok for a few mins, but them does it again. This has just started today.

SOURCE: 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a loud ticking noise, won't start.

Your problem is likely a bad battery and/or corrosion on the battery terminals. Remove the cables from the battery terminals and clean them with a wire brush or other tool. NOTE: always remove the negative cable first and reconnect it last. Reconnect the cables and then try to start/jump the vehicle again. If that doesn't clear the problem, take the battery to your local auto parts store or supplier and have them check it. You will probably need a new one.

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee new starter very loud

Check that the pinion teeth count is the same as the one you took out as some starter motors come with different pinion teeth count as they are used on different motors that have smaller or larger ring gears. The noise may be the incorrect meshing of the pinion teeth in the ring gear.

Only thought is, when you tighten the bolts ,go a little on
one ,then the other, like 3 times, don't tighten one all the way
first. Makes the housing warp.

2000 grand cheroke 4.0 knocks loud at idle

You need a trained technician to listen to this, but it sounds like a connecting rod and or a crankshaft main bearing noise. I lean more towards the rod knock form a worn out bearing.

It could be tons of different things , but being that the problem is more evident during cold weather , I'm inclined to think that the serpentine belt is loose.
