Question about 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II
Just got a Discovery II TD5 that has been parked for a while. I turn the key on and hear fuel pump humming, stops after a while (normal), start the car, engine runs for 3 or 4 seconds and dies. The car has no indicators, interior lights, fuel flap opening, remote door locking or window operation. Any ideas ladies, gentlemen and others?

No, likely to be caused by the actuators in the lock mechanism failing usually causing the door to remain locked. The boor door can also fail this way, as do the front side doors. Replacement requires the whole lock unit to be replaced at a cost of roughly £60 a lock, and a hours work. Helps if you have small hands. Requires a full strip down of the door and you will need the lock unit, trim clips (a few quid) and a trim removal tool (tenner). You can bodge with a flat head screwdriver, but the tool does help prevent damage to the clips & trim panel.

If you're standing looking at the rear of the vehicle, it's on the chassis rail on the right hand side rear wheel arch.

for Land Rover Discovery 1999-2004 no more external Fuel Filter serviceable anymore...it's a built-in part with the fuel pump. so if you want to change the filter then change the whole fuel PUMP.
