Check engine ON after timing belt replacement

Hello!I ' ve got VW Jetta GL 1995 2.0. I just picked up my car from mechanical shop after Timing Belt replacement. Now I have Check Engine On. Moreover car looks underpowered while driving and I feel small vibrating (I think it comes from engine) while I an driving it. When I stand on neutral I don't feel any vibration from engine. Sometimes now after standing a night it starts from second or third time. It was not so before Timing Belt replacement. Mechanic who replaced Timing belt told me that it's not dangerous to have Check Engine On and said that I don't need to worry about it. However I don't want to drive my car underpowered.....it seems like it has 1.5 instead of 2.0)) I was trying to find a diagnostic unit in couple of mechanic shops but all of them have OBD II connectors. Mine is OBD I as far as I understand. What is the best way to solve my problem? Is it possible to find a cable for my connector and connect it with laptop in order to check my car? Can I adjust my ignition by using software downloaded on my laptop? Thank you

I'll tell you what! If the mechanic told you that about the check engine light and the car runs like **** now....I would take your car back, tell him you will report him to the better business bureau and then see what he does. That is shotty maintenance and that car gives REAL mechanis a bad name.

Take your car back and tell him to fix it or you will sue him. PERIOD. You shouldn't have to come here to figure out how YOU should fix your car after a mechanic like that just did work on YOUR car.....wow....really ********** about that.

Where can I find a place on the web that shows how to replace the timing belt on a 2003 VW TDI with out buying the shop manual? I was told that you have to lift the engine in order to get to it?

There is two ways to change the timing belt.First-only can be done by professional VW mechanic without opening the front of the car.Second-need to remove front bumper, head lights plate, cooling system radiator/not an A/C radiator/ to get access to the timing belt.Hard job If you do not have an experiance.

Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

Does a 1992 1.8L vw jetta GL have an interference engine?

My manual for '93-'98 models calls for a timing belt replacement every 60K, and the engines are the same for earlier models, VW didn't do much different to them during that time.

I need to take off the water pump on a automatic 1992 jetta...

If it's a 2.0L or 1.8l, you'll have to take off the timing belt. I'd suggest looking for a procedure on removing the timing belt and the water pump is under the distributor gear usually. Do NOT loose your marks, or else you can ruin the engine.
