Fuel pump does not prime, on start. Motor cranks over, have spark, no fuel. Had this problem last year, cleaned all pins and ecm and used dielectric grease. It worked for the summer. Now have same problem..System relay energiizes , fuel pump fuse good, only have only 5.7 volts at fuel pump/tank level plug

SOURCE: Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

SOURCE: 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Crank-No Start. Replaced FP.

Hey Tim take a look at this, will this help ?
SUBJECT:
No Engine Crank Or No Engine Start Due To Electronic Lockup Of The WCM / SKREEM
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the Wireless Control Module (WCM), and if
equipped, the replacement of the Electric Steering Column Lock (ELV). The WCM is also
referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM).
MODELS:
2007
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer will experience a no engine crank AND a no engine start condition. Also, the
remote keyless entry (RKE) system will not operate. This condition may be due to an
electrostatic discharge (ESD) from the ignition key into the Wireless Control Module
(WCM), causing the WCM to electronically lockup. This condition may occur more
frequently in dry and/or cold weather conditions where a sufficient electrostatic charge is
more easily produced. This condition is corrected by the replacement of the WCM
DIAGNOSIS:
1. With the condition present (i.e. the vehicle in the no crank / no start condition), connect
the StarSCAN® scan tool to the vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position, and power up the StarSCAN®.
3. If the WCM is electronically locked up, the StarSCAN® will display the WCM as being
“off bus”.
4. If the no crank / no start condition is present, and the WCM is “off bus”, then reset the
WCM by temporarily removing the IOD fuse (with the key out of the ignition switch),
wait for 10 seconds and then reinstall the IOD fuse.
5. With the IOD fuse reset having been performed, verify that the vehicle will now crank,
start, and run.
6. If the condition is temporarily corrected by performing the above steps, and if the part
number of the WCM is earlier than the part number of the WCM listed in the part
reference table in the Service Bulletin Parts Required Section below, then perform the
Repair Procedure.

SOURCE: I need a fuse box diagram for a 1997 mazda protege dx

Yes - sounds like a Pump fuse, relay, or a pump...When you cycle the key (off-on-start-on) do you hear the pump running?
The fuel pump fuse may be under the hood with the other engine fuses - and it well may not be -(there is an accessory fuse box that has all the fuses for the inside accessories in it - located in the passenger compartment somewhere)- also check the kick panels at the drivers left foot and the passengers right foot -(If they pop off easily - The fuse box plastic cover will pop off easily, not attached with screws - so if you see screws or nuts, it won't be there) Look up under the dash on the drivers side, and also lastly check in the glove box- If you cannot find it, I'd see if I could find a Mazda "lovers" web-site - Often they post what is called "component locator" information, that would tell you exactally where it is (Normally you have to pay for access to that information - gotta love the web), or you may be able to locate a electronic owners manual there as well which will definitely tell you ...Best of luck and hope that helps some....

2004 Chevy Blazer no signal to fuel pump relay

OK, SO ENGINE IS DEAD, CRANKS BUT IS DEAD
AND now doing pump tests wrong. (as most do)
the relay has 4 pins.
to test the relay you must crank the dead engine.
and all fuses good first.
do not try to test the relay for the short prime pulse or go slowly mad. (2 man job and slow meter you will fail)
prime pulse 1second long, some even disable prime too cold outside, so I never trust the prime.
crank the engine.
2 man crank the dead engine (my guess what's up)
the contractor in the relay 2 pins ,one pin is 12vdc full time key on and 2nd one goes to 12vdc when relay energizes. (and pump gets 12vdc to it cranking.
the RELAY coil does that. in the relay.
the RELAy coil has 2 pins, 1 on this truck 4.3 is grounded hard, other coil is PCM
and is 12vdc from PCM, to coil 0v coil is dead.

that is how it works and how to test it correctly
learn the PCM cuts fuel 4 or more ways,

the facts are (have schematic up now)real.
ECM fuse B not blown or FP relay be dead.
PCM C2 pin 9 runs the relay coil
fuel pump not dead or its ground rusty.G402
Ok other coil pin on relay is grounded G102.
so he PCM sends 12vdc to the relay C2-B7
if not the relay will be dead.

fuse B is hot all the time so super easy to check
12vdc both ends of fuse is good for sure cranking
all fuses to PCM must be good.
battery voltage cranking is near 11v below 10v bad things happen.

if you scan the PCM it may tell you why it fails
why not scan any modern car first?

best on any dead engine, (but cranks fast)
all fuses good
scan it cranking
the check spark first not fuel fuel first
cant burn gasoline, with no spark.
the PCM(ecu) cuts fuel injectors if spark is detected by PCM bad.
the PCM cuts spark and fuel if crash SRS sensors tripped.
the PCM cuts fuel for other reasons even tps bad.
The pump is last. to test./ on any dead EFI engine
and do so cranking.
use a voltmeter to find it.
the pump is bad if 11vdc makes it to pump actual
cranking, and rail is 0psi.
if the FPR fails 2 ways stock closed PSI is 2 times normal and floods, engine if FPR is stuck open
PSI is 1/2 normal or less and engine dead or starves for fuel, weak engine and or idles a bit and stalls
see why I asked whats up? no told./
the real deal
my generic schemo. but is true.

I have a 1994 Toyota pickup. It will crank run a bit but then stop running. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thank y'all in advance :

what country?
what engines is there, size/cylinders or real name.
when did this very old PU truck run last
never seen by you, barn found?
last week, last month , last year or last decade.
history matters. and no told at all.
well bad fuel wreck the tank, pump and filters and injectors
the injectors have 10 micron small screens deep inside so bad fuel wreck them so easy and so does a nasty old rusty gas tank/
the pump only runs 1 second long each key no, for prime only;
the pump runs full time cranked, (12vdc too) to the pump full time cranked, this is a test; that maters most
then matters next is fuel pressure at the rail
but lest stop here.
is spark good, if not the ECU cuts fuel.
so spark is really first if the cam belt not slipped
if spark works good all 4. the engine runs on test fuel for 3 second each time tried, just like scotty video here

Fuel pump not running unless motor cranked. not starting

IS Australia, (USA answers me)
and now we know 3.6 L Alloytec (LY7) V6 engine, by GM. (chain drive.DOHC cams)
2004 first one.
you say spark is good but to all 6 cylinders or just 1.?

that is normal, for PUMP,
key on may run pump for 1 to 3 seconds, called PRIME,cranked pump runs full time cranked by designand engine running pump runs full time so all that is normalsome pumps are silent running and BOSCH makes those and brags about it. yeah nice so a tech uses 2 tools ! always
a voltmeter at pump 11v min, (wires drop 1v) as does starter load.
and a fuel pressure gauge. or it's all just a guessing game.
now rule #1 ALL PCM cut fuel 1 or 2 ways if spark or its precursors are detected as FAIL (by law and to end crash and burn seen on TV)
3 ways top fail cmp,ckp or coil packs dead , make spark dead. and more lots more. even spark wires old.for sure those carbon core junk.
so spark is first NEVER FUEL FIRST.
I test all spark HV wires with new test park plug, grounded

also SOME failures fool the PCM in to thinking spark is good and is not.but we all know the PCM is not AI or genius grade yet.
no year car told but is 2004 up. to 2007.
engine size, 3.6L petrol (gasoline) and VVT,
how many miles on the engine, 300k miles or 500Kmeters?
The VVT can file. as can chain guilds.
VVT can fail and case 50degrees of error at cams, cranking , not good that.

Now spark failures, on high mileage engines, there ar 6 COP spark coils to fail
and spark plugs too, over 100kmiles.
the cops have 6 boots that love to age crack and spark cause carbon tracking that shorts out dead the spark plug ,new boots are $15 each 10x cheaper than new coils with boots. (a cost savings Idea)
spark is good only when all 6 are good.
that is all I can say on 2004 car, many have super high mileage.

2007 fatboy cranks but no start

I know that it sounds stu*** but I had a guy bring his bike to me with a similar issue and the parts store sold him"high preference iridium spark plugs" and bike ran for a couple weeks then same issue I always use OEM plugs and the spark gap I have seen them not gapped correct in box new and everyone assumes that they are correct.
But also sounds like you're getting too much fuel if OEM plugs and gaps correct (and no dielectric grease on the actual threads of the spark plug cuz as you know that the ground I've seen that actually cause an issue one time
And you have spark, fuel (checked compression) sounds like a timing problem or fuel is adjusted incorrectly and you replaced the crank sensor but I believe if still throwing the same code it has a cam sensors also and last and hopefully not I am pretty sure they stopped using a rectifier and use computer now but shut the fuel off spray some brake cleaner and directly into the cylinder and not that environmentally safe stuff it is not as volatile as ether or starting fluid and with the fuel lines off spray a little bit in there and see if it'll fire up just for a second if it does then you know you probably have an issue with the computer or the fuel in the fuel adjustment

What could be wrong with my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee 4.0? It cranks and cranks but won't start. Gauges don't move and key light on dash has line through it. Changed CPS and cleaned battery terminals a

Is it out of gas? Try spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it starts then. If so, you have a fuel delivery problem. If not, you have an electrical problem (no spark).

Emergency fuel shut off

There is no emergency shutoff for the fuel pump. It is controlled from the ECM. There is a fuel pump relay in the relay/fuse box under the hood. But if you have power to the pump, it is probably ok. Having had a 1999 Dakota I had a situation where I was having intermittent shutdowns when driving that became more and more frequent. Sometimes I could restart immediately, other times I had to wait from 10-30 minutes before I could get a restart. I assumed a faulty fuel pump and replaced it only to find that it did not solve my problem. I researched the issue and found that the Dakotas and Durangos have a tendency to have faulty crankshaft position sensors. It will mimic a fuel pump issue since when the ECM loses sensor input, it shuts off the fuel pump. Test the pump this way - in a quiet setting, turn the key to the ON position, but do not crank the engine. With the drivers door open listen for a 2-3 second humming sound from the rear of the truck. This is the fuel pump priming the system to get fuel rail pressure. What then happens is once you start cranking and the engine fires, the ECM turns the pump on full-time. If the crank sensor is bad, the ECM cannot see that the engine is turning over and does not generate spark or fuel injector pulses, so even the fuel pump prime works, if it worked won't start the engine. At least if you hear the prime, you'll know the pump is functioning.

No power to fuel pump

power as in measured 12vdc power? or it dont buzz. power.
most all, cars, and trucks, no year stated.?
the pump can only run ,cranking or running engine.
some you get fuel prime for 3 seconds, only key on.
so if you check the pump it WILL Be dead. no 12vdc (by design)
so crank it.
rules if the road.
the PCM will cut fuel if it thinks spark is bad. (and others ,ask)
so fueling is last.
unless the pump is dead cranking, is it dead cranking?
dead means , either no 12vdc to pump cranking or pressure is too low cranking.

2003 s10 blazer cranks no start . when I was trying to test the crank sensor signal wire I found 10 volts present with ignition on not cranking. the ground wire has 12.5 with the key off and 12.21 volts...

Will a scan tool communicate with it or on the screen does it say NO COMM ! That's how you test a PCM/ECM . If no comm ,check power an ground's ,that's it .
Why were you messing with the crank sensor ? If the fuel pump primes for two seconds there is nothing wrong with it . When cranking the engine the PCM/ECM will only energize the fuel pump if it see's an input from the crank sensor ! You will not see 12 volts on the crank sensor signal return wire ! Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
The CKP sensor is a three wire sensor based on the magneto resistive principle. A magneto resistive sensor uses two magnetic pickups between a permanent magnet. As an element such as a reluctor wheel passes the magnets the resulting change in the magnetic field is used by the sensor electronics to produce a digital output pulse. The PCM supplies a 12-volt, low reference, and signal circuit to the CKP sensor. The sensor returns a digital ON/OFF pulse 3 times per crankshaft revolution for the V6 engine, 4 times for the V8 engine. The CKP sensor reads the crankshaft mounted reluctor wheel to identify pairs of cylinders at top dead center (TDC).

1996 bronco starting

Need to find out if there is spark while cranking first. Check at the coil wire first then at a plug wire.If there is spark at the coil and not at the plug the fault is the rotor or dist. cap.If there is no spark at all, suspect the ign. module. If there is good spark move on to the fuel pressure check. It needs about 40 lbs. to run.

Replaced fuel pump on 96 cutlass supreme and still wont turn over

Fuel pump power starts at the ECM/Batt fuse in the underwood fuse block. From there it goes the the fuel pump relay and then to the fuel pump. If you pull the fuel pump relay one pin should have power all the time. This is power from the ECM/BATT fuse. Two of the pins should be grounded. The last pin is power from the ECM. it hold have power for 3-5 seconds hen the key Is turned on and anytime the engine is cranking. Find out what is going on at the relay and then we'll have a better idea of what direction to proceed. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
