SOURCE: rear stut mount

I was able to replace a broken one with another piece of straight metal - just a joist hanger that I banged into shape and drilled. Has been working for a year!

Sonata stuts replace

you have to disconect the stearing nuckle frome the strut first it is usualy a bolt that goes through the nuckle pinching the strut to it then you have to take the sway bar link off after that you pull the three nuts in the engine compartment holding it to the viehcle then you take strut spring compressors and compress the spring they make a special tool to hold the strut pistion it place to get the center nut off but i use vicegrips throu the spring so i can use air to take the center nut off then position the spring and rubbers on the new strut and reverse procedure

How to change my struts

First try to check availability of the "Quick Strut" These are available for some cars and trucks from different, KYB, Carrera, Monroe, and others...the quick strut is the complete replacement just need to mark all locations...unbolt, and insert the replacement quick strut that includes the spring and all bushings, and boots...if the "Quick Strut" is not manufactured for your need to consider having the replacement struts installed by a shop...the springs have to be switched over, and special (and dangerous) compression tools are needed to take apart...and can borrow the needed tools from many auto stores...but again, not recomended for safety will need to have your alignment checked after replacing the struts...needed adjustments left unchecked will "chew up" tires right before your eyes...Hope this helps.

How to replace the front driver shock in my toyota rayis 2008 and if i need a special tool. thanks

You're better off having someone doing it for you (trust me) It's a strut assembly, it can be dangerous for a DIYer at home. It requires quite a few specialized and expensive tools like impact tools and a spring compressor to start with. Have a shop do it for you for the peace of mind and the safety & warranty factors.

When can you expect to have strut problems? Looking at a 1999 Lexus ES 300 (121,000 mi.) and am trying to determine if it has a strut problem. Also, what would be the cost for replacement?

Odds are, at 120000+ miles, it could well stand some new struts.

A Monroe "Quick Strut" will probably run in the neighborhood of 225.00 / each. Be sure to replace both....don't do just 1.

Labor to install probably around $300 and don't forget alignment @ around $80.

All together,(parts, labor, alignment, etc.) you could be looking at $830.

To save money, you could possibly get just a replacement cartridge, rather than a complete new strut (spring and all) for around $75 each, but may incur a elevated labor due to having to dis-assemble / re-assemble the strut assembly.
