Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

2003 Dodge Caravan makes a chugging sound.

There is no noise when just idle, but when I put it into any gear this chugging/knocking sound starts. Any idea what\'s going on and how to fix it?

Could have damaged inner or outer CV joints. Look for loose suspension components. Or could have worn engine or transmission mounts.

SOURCE: 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Front Noise

I had the same problem, my mechanic has had this same problem with other 2003 grand caravans. Flush the power steering fluid, replace it with ATF+4 and add Lucas power steering additive. Apparently dodge has posted the fluid that was originally used is causing this problem. $100 and it is purring like a kitten

SOURCE: my 2003 dodge caravan whines and when it seems

Hate to tell you this , but sounds like the pump is going in the transmission. First check the fluid level to make sure the fluid is up to full. The fuild and filter need to be replace at 60,000 miles. Clogged transmission filter can restrict the fluid flow into the transmission fluid pump.

SOURCE: 2006 Dodge Gr. Caravan. Loud humming noise upon

Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. has been making a loud

MOST LIKELY HAS A PLUGGED TRANSMISSION FILTER.
TORQUE CONVERTOR CLUTCH FAILURE COMMON.
CHANGE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND ROAD TEST.
IF NOISE IS GONE AND RUNS NORMALLY, CHANGE TORQUE CONVERTOR AND RESEAL TRANSMISSION.

Dodge caravan dies when in gear

Vacuum leaks. ( hissing noise around the engine). Tune up (plugs and wires). clean the throttle body(inside of it). All these can cause rough idle. The dieing can be from transmission problems. Can you rev the van up and keep it running while in gear? Or does it die then too? You can replace the solenoid pack on the outside of the transmission for around $250, if you do it yourself. If you do this, DO NOT get any dirt in the holes of the transmission where the solenoid pack sets. Clean it well before you remove the old pack.

2004 Dodge Caravan making chugging sound when in drive only. When in Park or neutral the noise goes away. Any ideas of what this may be or symptoms of? Thanks.

Symptom of a transaxle that may be going bad
so to speak

I would have to hear the noise to tell you more

Have you had any motor work at all in the last year ?

Preventative Maintenance I mean & can you separate
engine drivability from trans as chugging is of no help
