2004 mercury sable keep overheating. replaced drive belt and thermostat. now water pump appears to be leaking.

Don't mind helping but there are several pictures as well as written instructions. To much to cut, paste and all that stuff on fixya plus there is a size limit on pictures as well. If you want, email me directly at with your vehicle information (year, make, model) and I will be happy to make up a PDF and email it to you with pretty detailed instructions and pictures. It won't cost you anything but will need to know if the 8th digit of your VIN is a S, 2 or a U so I'm sure I give you the right information.

Hello, I know it is stnage but I have never changed my own oil and I would like some help finding the oil plug

Doesn't sound strange to me! I have been in this business for 36+ years and have trouble finding oil plugs and filters on some of the cars!

I could send you some information and possibly even some pictures, but you forgot to mention what type of car you have and which engine it is equipped with. YEAR,MAKE,MODEL, ENGINE SIZE . This information is also needed by your parts supplier so they can get you the correct oil and oil filter.

Unfortunately, I cannot post any pictures on this page once I have posted this "solution". For some reason, FixYa does not provide for adding pictures to a "comment". If you would like to post an email address, I can send you the information. I would recommend using an email address you do not use much, because posting it online can get you all kinds of trash (SPAM) in your inbox.

Where is the diagnostic port located on my 2001 passat 5 sp. auto V6?

On the old Volkswagen Passat B5 (MY 1997-2001) the Data Link Connector (DLC) or diagnostic port is placed on the right side of the parking brake lever, under a small rectangle rubber cover. See pictures below:

On the new Volkswagen Passat B5 (after MY 2001) the Data Link Connector (DLC) or diagnostic port is placed on the panel above pedals. See pictures below:

My ABS, brake and oil lights keep coming on at the same time, flashing for a few minutes and then going back off. This happens very randomly, sometimes lasting for seconds, sometimes lasting for up to 20...

Its exactly the abs module! and its keeping the ecu from communicating with the rest of the car, when you remove the module your tac will come back alive and the oil light will turn off. There is way to trick the ecu to thinking the abs module is working but it involves taking out the module, it is fairly simple. My email address is, email me, and I will give you pictures and instructions on what to do. Its really easy, your abs and break light will go off along with the beeping!
