Are you sure it is due to the hand brake? the light will also come on for low brake fluid or due to low pressure in brake ssystem and also is the abs light on, if you have abs, a fast way to check this would be to locate the switch at the hand brake and remove the connector at the switch and if the light is still on then it is not due to hand brake.let me know, make sure the brake fluid is full and the sender in the master is good/

SOURCE: hand brake red light flickering abs yellow light

Make sure the e-brake is completely dis-engaged; handle all the way down/pedal all the way up - if pedal; pull release and lift up on the pedal.

If problem with the ABS light continues you'll have to take the car to a qualified mechanic to test the ABS sensors...could have one bad/mis-aligned.

SOURCE: 2004 mitibushi lancer es instrument

Check the VSS( vehicle speed sensor).Remove the sensor, clean it and again place it and see.If still the same problem is noticed. If same problem ,then sensor has to be replaced and checked. The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located under the hood at connector B-04.The wire coming off the VSS that goes in to the Engine Control Module (ECM) is Black with a yellow stripe.------ But if replacing the sensor is not helping, then problem relates to cluster board. The instrument cluster has to be removed from dash.At the back of the cluster there is a circuit board with wiring connectors. Some times the wiring connections gets loose and just removing and re-tightening the connections helps. But in some cases the cluster board is shorted and that causes the problem. In that case the cluster board has to be repaired. There are local auto stores who deals with cluster board repairs.Cost of new cluster board is too much, but getting it repaired will not be very costly.--------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

It wont shift out of park

Check your brake light fuse in the fuse box. Some models will not allow the shifter to move from the park position if the brake lights are not functioning. Hope this helps.

Good Luck,

Check your stop light switch, mounted on the upper portion of the brake pedal, it has an electric plug in attached to it, it should be why the brake lights are'nt working.

You may have to adjust the brake light switch, there should be some adjustment nuts on the threded shaft that will let you adjust it to work properly. Hope this helps.
