It will be best if you get a workshop manual for the job and it will explain what you have to do and what tools are needed
ultimately you will be spending as much as if you have an accredited workshop do the job
Remember any costly mistakes they make are covered by warranty, where you mistakes cost extra
The only thing you will be saving is the labour costs and as it will take you probably 3 times longer to get it right even that is cheap
Accredited shops will recommend the replacement of cam and crank shaft seal, hydraulic tensioner , idler pulleys and belt which will amount to around $700 dollars regardless of who does the job as this is the job done professionally and it means that you will get the next 60.000 miles or 100.000 klms belt trouble free
Take short cuts ( which you will do to save money)and the job may have to be done again in half the expected distance.

How remove renault Sump

Your will have to hoist the engine before hand and when ready to unbolt the sump from its position,un bolt the engine mount bolts making sure that every thing is safe & no problems will occur also removing engine oils. Then lift the engine up alittle off its mounts & then you should be able to remove the sump successfully away from the cross member & other interferances that are in the way. If you don't have a hoist then a car jack can be used with a small buffer of wood or soft rubber to jack the engine up. But please becareful with your self under there. Remember the energy spent on the job is prepare 90% for your safety then 10 % for the job in hand.

U R talking a BIG job if U don't know how to work in the dask of UR car. The newer vehicles are a tare the WHOLE dash out to get to a few things. If U R confident in UR knowledge & abilities, U may pull it off. Taking UR time is one of the main things that U have to remember so that something DOESN'T get broke. NEVER FORCE any thing, if it doesn't come out, look for another screw, clip, bolt or something like that.

Reduced engine power

Several checks for check at good exhaust/mech shops on clogged catalytic converter...dirty air filter...clean Mass Air Flow Sensor (near air filter, use only MAF sensor spray) Spray and wipe out throttle body with spray cleaner...dirty gas use fuel additive "Heet" removes water, and use gas addidtive fuel injector cleaner...I like the STP super concerntrated...Most of these are low cost checks. How remove lower radiator hose on a 1999 ford expedition, i can not take the hose off. I add a new one put it leaks because its loose now i cannot take it off. I replaced the radiator did i do something...

These things have a sort of plastic end on the hose that pushes in and clips in if remember rightly and on the plastic end that pushes in is a rubber O ring so it would not surprise me if the O ring is missing .iam trying to remember but a jeep when i changed one last year i know i had a hell of a job to remove it

The front end shakes: I was told by our mechanic that it needs rear shocks and the struts need replacing along with a new stabilizer bushing. Is this something I can do myself?

You can do it yourself. but here are a few things to remember. When doing this kind of a job at home, you are working with jacks and stands, you are on your back and there are special tools that are needed to make sure that things go back together properly and to the right torque. You are also messing around with the alignment and balancing of the tires, so you are going to need to get your car balanced and aligned. If I where you I would let someone who already has the tools and the experience to get the job done, if your mechanic is charging to much hunt around, a lot of tire shops will do the job for you also.

I think my timing chain tensioner(s) is on the way out. Quite a lot of 'chatter' at the moment, no loss of power, no smoke and still starts on the button. Where can I source tensioners,can I do the job by...

You can get a tensioner from auto zone or any parts dealer. Just have to take things off till you can get to it. Are you up for the job or not? Just remember how to put the parts back together. Get a repair manual. Helps a lot.

86 ford mustang 5.0 ho motor. just installed a clutch. wont go into gear. the cable has been adjusted. is there a slave cylinder adjustment too? or is the slave cylinder not workin properly

My '86 5.0 was a cable controlled clutch no slave or master cylinders. Make sure the throwout lever is seated properly, and check for movement when the clutch pedal is depressed. It should move at least .75 inches when depressed. Also make sure the bell housing is mating up to the engine completely and all bolts are tight. If all these things are ok it could be an improperly installed or wrong throwout bearing. I hope this helps. I remember what a pain that job was when I did mine esp. that screwy cable pulley thing attached to the clutch pedal. Which also may be the problem. Good luck.
