Yes it does. Its just really hard to get the shifter to go into 1st gear, and / or it grinds even with the clutch all the way to the floor

I suggest you change the fluid in the tranmisssion and also engage 2nd gear just prior to first to stop geasr motion

If fiorst is a syncronized gear then you may need to overhaul the transission

  • ashlee dawn May 05, 2013

Its a hydraulic clutch I was thinking it might be the fluid or a throw out barring or the clutch possibly needs adjusting.

I asked you if the clutch was ok, you siad it was, is it???

Does the pedal have more than an inch of free play or fell lower down before resistance starts? Is the system low on fluid or have a leak at the master or slave cylinder of the hydraulic clutch??

  • ashlee dawn May 05, 2013

I'm sorry I misunderstood the question. I'm not sure that's what I'm trying to figure out. When I'm stopped at a stop sign and I put my foot all way down the clutch pedal and try to go into first either it's really hard to get into first or it grind

SOURCE: do i need a clutch ?

my thing with cars is always the simplest solution first, and that would be the clutch. how many miles does this car have? if it's over 90k and the clutch has never to your knowledge been replaced, then it is most likely the clutch. Nissan often puts very high quality clutches that last forever tho, on my 1986 300ZX turbo, I replaced the first clutch at 149,000 miles. Also, how did it go out? was it progressively losing power over time, or was it a loud crunching noise? Progressive'd point to a clutch.

SOURCE: my clutch goes to the

It's a tiny resivoir, usually above or near the master cylinder or brkae fluid resevoir. You'll have to bleed the clutch. Fill the resevoir. With someone in the car...find the relief valve on the transmission, right above the clutch wire to tranny. Open valve and have the person in the car slowly push the clutch to the floor. This will cause the fluid to squirt out. Close the valve then have the person return the pedal...it might not return by itself. Due this about 3-4 times. Top off resevoir.

I have a 87 5 speed pathfinder and the gears started to go on the transmission . now the transmision wont go into any gear.

Hi Robert,I have 85 Nissan 4x4,know these Nissan's very well, you stated your clutch fluid in reservoir was empty, which means your clutch slave cylinder is bad and leaking. It's located on the side of transmission with 2 bolts holding it on,may have fluid on it,they use brake fluid. Here's a guide on how to replace, here's the part, very easy to replace. You can fill up with fluid and bleed to get you where you need to go,will hold up temporary, best to get a bleeder kit at Autozone to bleed.

4x4 low engagement

Ok let me be frank cshoxie I had actually owned a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder SE. The 4x4 lever is to the left of the gear shift. It looks like a manual tranmission gear shift. I could have engaged my even in DRIVE at LOW speeds. But wans't recommended by manual. However on the shift has 4-low and 4 HIGH but this vehicle would only go in 2-wheel and 4H.
