Add a can of Beerymans Chemtool to the oil run it for a few days and then change the oil. If it is dirt or sludge issue that will clear it up. if not the lifter is defective and should be replaced and or inspected for the cause of the excessive lash.

Hi there Having just bought this car last Friday i contacted the dealer about the conisistent tappet noise!!! He has suggested i drain out 1 litre oil and replace with a bottle or Moreys Oil. Do you have...

as vechicles get worn you can get space in the liffters and will cause a tappen noise when engine is running and faster you go the louder it can become you can use moreys or lucas both are good thay exspan when warm up and take up the space in the lifters and stop them from hitting the sides of the engine

How do i adjust valves on a 4.3 vortec tbi motor

The 4.3 liter vortex uses a hydraulic lifter. There is no valve adjustment. If you hear a lifter tick than there is either a bad lifter or something broken in the valve train. Something yo can try for a sticky lifter is add 1/2 a can of seafoam motor tune the oil. Start the engine and let it run until the noise goes away. Then change the oil. If the noise doesn't go away than you have bigger issues. I have yet for the seafoam to not fix a sticky lifter especial in the 4.3 liter which we see quite often.

Lifter noise i change oil put 20 50 penn but didnt help can they be ajusted or not

You may need to go for a thinner oil rather than a thicker one for a short period of time. Lifters can get stuck when gunk or deposits bind the adjusters. I usually run about 1/2 quart of Marvel Mystery Oil and the rest straight oil when I'm trying to cure sticky lifters. Don't run thinned out oil for prolonged periods of time, but rather to sort of rinse everything out a bit and then switch back to regular oil. Also, you may wish to check your oil pressure, it could be that your oil pump is getting weak. Lack of good oil pressure will surely make a racket on your top end and (eventually) the bottom end as well.

What causes the lifters to click for a few minutes then they my not click for 3 or 4 days

Your lifters are the hydraulic type. Inside the lifter is a small piston that is driven by engine oil pressure. As the lifter gets older, a small amount of residue forms inside that is more sticky when cold than it is when warm. That prevents the piston to move freely until it gets warm. The piston takes up slack between the cam and valves, so when it's stuck, the valves become noisy.
Usually if the problem is minor, adding marvel oil to your engine oil will gradually dissolve the deposit and quiet it down. Internal lifter wear can also cause a similar problem. Adding a viscosity improver such as lucas additive will often help with that.
Your only other option would be to take the engine apart and actually replace the lifters.
When using additives, give them time to work....deposits form over time and it takes time to make them go away.

How do you fix a stuck lifter?

You can usually add either marvel oil or lucas oil treatment to the engine oil and if the lifter is just sticky, it should quiet it down. If it does not respond, unfortunately, you will need to replace it and inspect the cam for wear.

I have a 100k on my 1992 wrangler i have a little lifter noise

If you have an inline 6, 100K is nothing! Lifter noise can be due to low oil pressure. if pressure is good, it can be from cam wear, lifter being sticky inside, or a rocker pivot being a little worn. Most just get a bit sticky (internal hydraulic plunger inside a lifter or two). To fix that I generally change the oil to a good synthetic, add lucas additive or marvel oil and just give it some time to dissolve the gunk. It took time to get that way so don't expect the tapping to go away instantly...Most times it will begin to lessen in a day or two or up to a few weeks.

this is the way i adjust tappets remove all spark plugs

draw this on a paper

u start with no1 get the valves rocking which means turn engine over by hand til no 1 rockers one rocker is going up and the is going down u may have to turn the engine back and forth slowly
to see it . once u have no 1 rocking u can adjust no 6 valves adjust them with a little clearance so the push rod still spins freely

4 rocking adjust 3

once u have made these adjustments recheck firing order 153624
try and restart engine if it starts the turn all rocker ajuster a further 1/4 of a turn and your done u may have too wait a bit of time for the liffters to bleed down after u do final adjustment if it dont start
