SOURCE: exterior passenger mirror

You must first remove the door panel, trace the wiring and disconnect the harness.
There are several screws attaching the door panel, so be careful. These must be removed first to allow all sides to come free.

SOURCE: replace exterior door handle on a jeep commander

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Pull back the weather seal and disconnect the linkage to the outer door handle and then remove the bolts securing the outer handle to the door

SOURCE: how to replace my exterior passenger side mirror

Hi, follow the detailed instruction below on how to replace the passenger side mirror to your 2006 Jeep Commander...
Remove Door Panel

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Remove the three Phillips screws from the inside of the door panel. Slowly pull the door panel out, starting at the bottom of the door panel. Slide your hands behind the panel and pull straight out toward you, going along the edge of the panel. Plastic clips hold the panel on the door. As you pull the panel off, you will hear these clips pop out. Do this all the way around the door panel until the the edge of the panel begins to separate from the door and the panel clips release.
  • Remove the plastic clips connecting the metal door rods to the door panel by prying toward the door itself with a flat-head screwdriver.
  • Pull the door rods out. Disconnect the wiring under the door rods by moving the clip connector in the opposite direction of the wiring to release the wiring harness from the panel. Disconnect the panel from the door.

Removing and Installing the Mirror
  • Remove the screw holding the mirror cover in place.
  • Move the wires up and out of your way to access the wire connector. Carefully pull the wire connector free with your hand and remove the mirror
  • Reinstall the electrical connector. Install the new mirror and the trim cover by reversing the previous steps.

I have a replacement mirror for the passenger exterior for a 2008 impala. can you give me step by step details on putting it on

I'm going to assume the 2008 is similar to my 2006. The mirror is attached to the door with (3) 10mm nuts behind the triangle shaped interior trim piece that pops off easily with a screwdriver. If you have electric mirrors, the door panel has to come off to unplug the wiring harness from the mirror. There are three T30 torx screws and a 7mm bolt that need to be removed first...two torx bolts are under the rubber pad in the door grab well and the other is under the plastic trim piece behind the interior door handle. The 7 mm screw is behind the door reflector. Once the torx bolts and 7mm bolt is removed, pry the door panel at the bottom (there is a slot for this) and release the plastic connectors around the panel's edge...some effort is required to release them.
