Check your spark plugs and leads. If this fails to fix it, then make sure the ignition system is set up properly.

SOURCE: 2004 subaru forester, 99,000 miles. Check engine

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

SOURCE: Check Engine light flashes and car vibrates

The only scenario I am familiar with that causes a blinking or flashing Check Engine Light is misfires. Your description of the car shaking is another sign of possible misfires as well. There could be other issues, it would be helpful to know what codes are getting set. However, with the flashing check engine light and the shaking of the car the first thing I would do, if it hasnt been done in a while, is a tune up. Replace the plugs to start. I believe you have a distributorless ignition meaning that you have coil packs instead of a distributor.

Your coil pack sits on top of the plugs. Look to the left side of the engine, just at the bottom of the valve cover and you will see (assuming you have the 4.0L 6-cylinder engine) a series of three humps. Those three humps is your coil packs and there should be four bolts that hold it in. Take out those four bolts, pry up the coil pack and then you will have access to replace the spark plugs.

While your at it, Id replace the fuel filter, air filter and other general maintenance/tune up items like that.

SOURCE: At 40 mph the car starts to shake. It last to 5o

I have this same car with exactly the same problem. Begins shaking at 40mph and stops shaking as soon as you let off the gas, but then begins again as soon as you press on the gas and smooths out as you get over 50. And the shaking is not felt through the steering wheel. Solution: Replace the transmission mounts. There are two of them, one on each side mounted on the frame right next to the shock strut. There is also a front and rear engine mount, but I replaced the two as described and shaking is gone.

SOURCE: Car is shaking at idle and then 60 mph

BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS AND STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER OR WEAK FUEL PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO SURGE.

SOURCE: Audi A4 ESP light comes on and car shakes/vibrates strongly

I am dealing with this issue with my 2003 a4. The Esp Is your tractioon controll, which is tied into your Abs system. Your Brake light Circuit is also tied in, so. Check your Brake Fluid, all Rear Bulbs, then look into Abs wheel speed sensor. $100 bucks each. The yaw sensor is unlikely culprit, but the ESP Controll module which is located under glove box is most likely the suspect.<!-- from fixya rte -->

Tune up and the correct timing needs to be set when you are done with new cap and rotor, try that first, when you remove the cap do not turn it just lift it off or the timing gets messed up.

Hyundai Excel X3 / Accent X3 has trouble starting, a lot of vibrating and shaking.

This is starting to sound very much like a blocked catalytic converter on the exhaust system. Try unbolting the exhaust in front of the catalytic unit and see if it will start and run normally. If it does then the unit needs replacing, if not then thats me tapped out for ideas.

I have a 93 jeep cherokee when I get above 55 the whole truck shakes , what could it be?

First thing you need to do is have the wheel balance checked. Even before that, make sure there isn't any mud, ice or snow packed into the back-side of your wheels. Older tires with more than 2/3 tread worn off sometimes can promote shaking if they don't have adequate sidewall strength.
Check your front end components for excessive play, especially the ball joints and the track bar ends.
Jeeps are particularly sensitive to play there and can get what's called "death wobble" which is a violent shaking usually when you hit a bump (sometimes even a small one). Of course, check all components because small amounts of play in each one can add up to an unacceptable amount overall.
If the shaking is throughout the entire body (usually a bad vibration rather than shaking), also check the driveshaft joints. If any have play or are binding it can cause that as well.
If you find something and have a question about what you found, just ask!!!

My 2004 automatic ford ranger shifts hard

The tranny problem sounds like it is out of fluid hopefully, or more likely the shift solenoid, and clutch packs are sticking and that requires a rebuild. The "almost misfire" sound like a clogged injector just pour son injector cleaner in there. I recommend using a brand called PowerService "DieselClean" you can get it almost anywhere. As for the dying , I had an 04 danger ranger and mine would shut down while I was driving and i had to pull over and push the fuel system manual override "which is a button under the passenger side dash" and then it would start again. I was never able to figure that one out.

Vibration that shakes the whole car

If this engine has a fan clutch check to see if the clutch spins freely when the engine is shut off. If its frozen that will cause a vibration which will shake the entire car.. The next item of interest would be the torque convertor in the transmision. They can shake a car very well also
