1999 Lincoln continental. When the car tries to go into overdrive the check transmission light will come on and it will start shifting rough. And sometimes if I stop completely without turning the car off it will not shift into gear at all. But when I turn the car off it clears the error and runs fine until it tries to go into overdrive again. I haven't worried about it t

SOURCE: 95 Lexus ES 300 check engine light is on and the overdrive off light is flashing

chances are you don't have to replace the computer. the reason i tell you this is because you did not mention that the car is running lousy. no complaints of rough idle or missfire or hard starting. chances are that your engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the computer which then controls the transmission is most likely the culprit.. and it could just bhe that there is a loose connection between the two. if that is ok then your transmission control module is faulty. this is not the main computer, but the gobetween the trans and the ecm.. hope this helps please rate this...thanks(btw....the knock sensors control timing not the trans mission)

Dear Anonymous,
I am sorry to have to tell you you are most likely to have to take your car to a Lincoln dealer and have your computer replaced, or re-programmed at the least.
This kind of mistake cannot be fixed for free.
God bless your efforts.

My 1999 lincoln Continental wont shift out of "PARK"

Is the vehicle parked on an incline? The parking pin may be slightly jammed. If you can VERY CAREFULLY nudge the vehicle up the hill an inch or two, using another vehicle, the shift lever may free itself.
If the vehicle is parked on level ground, suspect the LOCKING SOLENOID for the shift lever.
Less likely, the parking pin may be jammed (inside the transmission), or the shift lever linkage may have become damaged.

I just bought a 2000 Lincoln Continental and the transmission light comes on randomly. Previous owner said to push the reset button then it should be good. Did that then it shifts kind of rough. Any...

You could have a shift solenoid in the valve body that is acting up. The only other issue I could think of would be an intermittent electrical connection. Check the connectors on the trans body, clean them and get some dialectric grease. Not saying this is the problem, just a place to start. Good luck!

it sounds like the detent cable that allows the trany to shifts thru its shift points needs to be adjusted - the problem is the year of this car has electronic and manual shifting - so you need to look and determain this or the best bet is to take int a trany shop and let themtake a look
