Maybe the shocks are worn out. You can do the jounce test, give a good push down on either bumper, vehicle should move down, back up past rest, and then settle at rest. Any more and it is worn out. Also check for leaking shocks, and broken springs while your at it. Judging on the year of the vehicle I wouldn't doubt the shocks are bad, if they haven't been replaced within the last 50K miles or so. They are easy to replace, and properly working shocks greatly increase the safety and drive-ability of the vehicle.

SOURCE: tire shop says tire wear is due to bad rear struts

you need to replace only the shock cartridges.  Also have the tires rebalanced.
When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

I heard something snap and then noticed that the rear of the car drives very bumpy

Can you provide more info? Did you hit a bump? What do you mean by 'drives bumpy?' Does it ride rough, or does it go up and down a lot after you hit a bump, or something else? Can you further describe the snap you heard, and what was going on when you heard it and immediately afterward (e.g., driving 40 mph on a paved road, hit a pot hole, heard a loud 'breaking' sound as if something snapped/broke, and the ride of the car seemed to immediately change to being more harsh/rough)? Have you had any work done recently, such as tires changed or rotated, struts replaced, wheel alignment, or brakes replaced? Did anything else change (e.g., now when you hit a bump, you hear a new noise in the rear)? Were you carrying anything heavy in the trunk or back seat? I had a '99 Corolla for several years, and had zero problems other than a worn out driver's door handle and a couple of cracked windshields. Great car choice!

I would check your tire pressure, if your running 60 psi it's going to be a bumpy ride, lower the air pressure to 35 psi and see if it makes a differance, does the truck move up and down when you jump on the bumpers or is it stiff ?

STEERING ASSEMBLY CREATES A WIGGLE ON FRONT TIRES

Sounds like possibly Tie rod ends. Cheep parts. Reasonable labor charge. The Tie rod ends can and will break from the wheel and your Car will literally have a mind of its own. If they do break It will most likely be to a NASTY pot hole on a freeway. If this Is the case get It done ASAP. If your tight for $$ Drive slow and watch for pot holes and bumps.

Good Luck
