SOURCE: transmission leak!!
Had similar problem (Jetta 5 cylinder 2006) - leaks in the timing chain cover, large oil leak near the tranny (sounds like your problem), leak from "ALT belt side crank pulley seal and leak from oil pan. This car has only 23,000 kilometers about 14,000 miles on it!!! The dealer repaired this at no charge...
(waiting for the wheels to fall off...)

A leaking rear main seal will not cause your transmission to leak.
The transmission has its own seal and should not leak because of the engine rear main seal.
Due to the labor involved in replacing the rear main seal on the engine, it is best if you replace the front transmission seal at the same time if possible.
Installation varies on different vehicles but the principles are the same.

SOURCE: I am looking to buy
Could be quite costly. Especially the rear main seal on the engine. You have to take the trans out to even get to it. I would look for something else with less problems to buy.
