Valve clearance on suzuki vitara 1999 1.6

  • Set the engine to Top Dead Centre (TDC) of the compression stroke for the cylinder to be adjusted.
  • Check the valve clearance. The valve clearance specifications are as follows:

    Intake valves: 0.005-0.007 inches (0.13-0.17mm) Exhaust valves: 0.005-0.007 inches (0.13-0.17mm)
  • After adjustment, tighten the lock nuts to 11-14 ft. lbs. (15-19 Nm).
  • Repeat for each valve to be adjusted.

    Need valve specification on 86 chevy nova

    from my 1985/1986 official shop manual:
    figure 6A1-39 valve stem and guide clearance
    max intake clearance 0.08 mm (0.0031 in)
    max exhaust clearance 0.10 mm (0.0039 in)
    pg 6A1-17 If clearance is greater than the values given in 6A1-39, then replace the valve and guide

    standard overall length
    intake 106.88 mm (4.2079 in)
    exhaust 106/78 mm (4.2039 in)
    do not grind more than 0.5 mm (0.020 in)

    Intake valves - 0.20mm (Cold)
    Exhaust valves - 0.30mm (Cold)

    Valve settings

    - Pull the hand brake and put transmission in neutral.
    - Remove spark plug cords.
    - Remove the spark plugs.
    - Remove the Tappet cover
    - Lift up the left front wheel.
    Cylinder number 1 is toward the pulleys and belts side.
    - Rotate the crankshaft anticlockwise with socket and extension rod and bring the valve tappets (intake and exhaust) No. 4 cylinder on dancing position.
    - Adjust the valve clearance of number 1 cylinder.
    Valve clearance:
    Intake 0.18 - 0.22 (cold) Exhaust 0.25 - 0.28 (cold)
    - Rotate the crankshaft anticlockwise to bring the valves of cylinder 2 on dancing position and adjust the valves of No. 3 cylinder.
    - Similarly rotate the crankshaft to bring the valves of No. 1 cylinder on dancing position and adjust the valves of No. 4.
    - Rotate the crankshaft anticlockwise to bring the valves of cylinder No. 3 on dancing position and adjust the valve clearance of No. 2 cylinder.

    make the engine runs for about 30minutes before adjusting the valves,
    valve clearances:
    intake valve = 0.20mm(0.008 in)
    exhaust valve = 0.25mm(0.010 in)
    for reference only when the engine is cold,
    valve clearances:
    intake valve = 0.25mm(0.010 in)
    exhaust valve = 0.30mm(0.012 in)
    engine specs: mitsubishi 4g13 1.3L (if you have same engine)

    I want to set valve clearances on 1997 2.6 petrol holden rodeo. i need valve sequence? how can i tell which is exhast and which is intake?

    Intake valves clearance cold 0.4mm(.016inches)
    Exhaust valve clearance cold 0.4mm(.016inches)

    Procedure of tappet adjustment

    make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center,remove the valve cover,loosen all adjustment lock nuts,adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge,heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.7675a52.gif

    Valve Clearance

    valve clearance, with engine hot, intake valves are .005-.006 in, exhaust valves are .011 in, if engine is cold then its intake .009-.011 in and exhaust is .007. hope this helps good luck.

    1. With No. 1 piston (6108) on top dead center (TDC) at the end of compression stroke (Position No. 1 in the illustration), check the following valves:
      Position 1
      No. 1 exhaust valve (6505) No. 1 intake valve (6507).
      No. 3 exhaust valve No. 2 intake valve.
      No. 6 exhaust valve No. 4 intake valve.
