Question about Mercury Cougar
Hello all i have a 1996 mercury cougar, 4.6l i never had a problem untill i reset the battery after re wiring the brake light switch,now when i start it it idles fine n will drive in D when its cold but when the car warms up it and i put in drive or reverse it shuts off but will restart and idle no proble untill it goes into gear ... mind it drives fine when cold im soooo stuped....... what to do@@

You have an air pocket in the cooling system. To bled it out you will have to park vehicle on an incline or jack up the front end untill the radiator cap is higher than the heater core. The remove radiator cap and run engine until warm then hold rpm to about 1200 rpm's and top off coolant level until you have no more bubbles.

Your oil is a little low, and the timing may be off a bit but if it smooths out after warm it is probably ljust

the problem is the forward clutch pack has failed in the trans or the hydraulic pressure that applies that clutch pack is leaking. u are going to need an overhaul
