Replace with genuine unit or you will have cpu problems. Stop what ever is causing it to block up.( Leaded fuel or incorrect oil or excessive oil consumption)

SOURCE: 2003 Saturn Vue V6 2WD catalytic converter problem

I am sorry but the delaer is correct, there are 3, and the bad news is the after market cats won't work, the check engine light will come on if you use them and for that reason you will fail smog tests, the issue is how much they flow and the way they work is not compatable with the programming of the powertrain control module, stick with the factory cats, I know they are expensive but in the end you will have to buy them.

SOURCE: poor fuel mileage with my 02 nissan altima

Depending on how many miles you have on your vehicle, i would check with the dealer on that year car .. They usually warranty catalytic converters for 8yrs or 96,000 miles . Its worth checking if it gives you a free replacement..

SOURCE: have had two catalytic converters go out in last 8 months

Catalytic converters should last the life of the vehicle. usually they are damaged be a poorly running engine. most common causes are lean misfire causing unburnt fuel and air to get into the convert and ignite there. coolant or oil burning. engine running too hot (lean) overheating converters.

was it the same converter that went twice? did they change them at the same time? where the pre-converters? is the engine light on?

SOURCE: My 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5s just started to smoke & knock

what colour smoke? if white, you may have a blown head gasket, remove the radiator cap look for signs of oil in coolant, if low top up with water and start engine,if coolant is trown from radiator this confirms same, also look for external coolant and oil leakk on cylinder head.you can also check cylinders by re moving spark plugs cank engine and see if coolant srays out holes

My 1994 nissan altima nox high speed emission (25mph) is to high.Standard is 910, mine is 1044. needs to be lowered.

O2 sensors, EGR or catalytic converter(s) may be malfunctioning.
If you've ever had a blown head gasket the coolant coming through could have clogged the O2 sensor and the cat.
EGR system could be out, do you hear any exhaust coming from the EGR pipe or EGR? also try and push in the EGR diaphragm, being careful not to damage the rubber
Also there are a few products you can buy at auto parts stores that claim to fix high nox, but I have not had success with these myself.

Receiving engine code p0420 on my 2005 altima 2.5 s

A p0420 code indicates a Catalytic System efficiency failure, Bank 1.
Basically, the computer is seeing reduced efficiency of the catalytic converter or one of it's components (such as an 02 sensor)

There may be a few root causes, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, faulty coolant temperature sensor, faulty converter, Large exhaust leak, or retarded (slow) timing.

91 Toyota Cressida Same struggle up hills

Check to see if the catalytic converter is clogged, a clogged converter will cause poor performance, the engine to overheat and the exhaust to glow red hot. That should FixYa. Find a different mechanic.

2002 Altima engine/Catalytic converter problems

check engine light has nothing to do with oil level. Only the red engine light does. It sounds like you are burning a lot of oil and it is poisoning your catalytic converter. Your converter is killing itself trying to treat all the unburned oil that is coming to it. It will get so hot that it swells inside and clogs it up. Why you are burning oil is the question. Only 3 possibilities. Past the piston rings, past the valve stem seals or a plugged pvc valve and its hoses. Clean the PVC hose and change the PCV first. Changing the cats now will just kill them again until you fix the oil burning.
Autozone will do free scan test for fault codes by the way.
PCV won't show up there though.
You can buy cheap engine on ebay or at car-part.com. page with asterisk is lowest price.

Poor fuel mileage with my 02 nissan altima

yes it very possible because the catalytic converter is part of the emissions and you need to ask yourself when was the last time you had a good tuneup drive belt, sparks and wires if needed and a fuel filter and a pvc valve.
