Have the fault codes read for faults Replace the faulty units with genuine one
because most aftermarket units are not set for OEM cpu units and are not
completely compatible.

SOURCE: 1996 jetta problems.

I had a problem similar and the dealership in Germany said a common problem has to do with the pin wire connector on the starter. It gets hot, then the connector gets loose and shorts. After a time, the car will randomly start or not start (this was my problem). After several weeks at the sucky AAFES mechanics, I had it towed to the dealer who replaced the pin (about 80 euro) and it ran like a top. Try that first. It may save you a lot of $.

sounds like the turbo could be going bad, did you check air filter? Black smoke generally means your not getting enough air to burn fuel.

Jetta 2006 tdi highline i bought 6 months ago i thought is a good car but now i can see black smoke and lost power i send to garage and the mecanic work somthing on timing he say here is 2.5 and i will...

Black smoke from the tail pipe means the engine is not getting any air like a dirty air filter. I think your mechanic is telling you is that you need a new turbo. The turbo boost incoming air pressure to the engine and if it is bad then it will not let enough air into the engine causing black smoke from the tail pipe.

Hello there My Pajero is havig a black smoke.Thou little wot do i do?

Lost power and Black smoke?

You have a Failed MAP Sensor and / or the vacuum line is off or cracked.

The ECU thinks the engine is under full load and is getting all the fuel it can to the engine.

Hope this tip helps guide you to solve this problem.

Blows white smoke from 2003 Jetta when starting

Hi JG,

White smoke is indicative of water/moisture getting burned off.
If it only happens when starting, when the engine is cold (like first thing in the morning), it's most likely condensation that formed on the cold metal inside the exhaust system.

If you are also experiencing a loss of power or if your coolant level is dropping I'd get a compression check done. The additional symptoms could indicate a blown head gasket.

Best regards

If you have a lot of black smoke then its over fueling getting to much diesel to the cylinder's. Sounds like an injector problem with the slight knocking noise. Che ck the return pipes are not blocked. If the smoke is dark brown then this is a problem with the valves on the intake manifold which control's the intake of exhaust emmisions.

Neither cat nor sensor.
You have a leaky fuel injector (stuck open).
Black smoke is unburt fuel.
Obtain a mechanics Stethoscope (like a doctor's steth, but has a rod onthe end instead of a disc).
You will find the faulty injector quickly.
Best to replace it.
(By the way, white smoke is Water and blue smoke is oil)
