Question about 1998 Volvo V70
I just bought a 1998 Volvo V70 Wagon with 154000 miles on it. One of the problems I have had with it is the appearance of a groaning noise whenever I turn the steering wheel, followed by a release of smoke (smells almost like over-heated coolant) from an interlink of some kind at the back (side?, since it sits sideways) near the heat shield but inside the engine compartment. I don't know what that part is or I would properly describe it. Apologies. Any advice, perhaps in identifying this component would be appreciated. Dave
It sounds like there is a leak in the power steering and the fluid is dripping on the exhaust. To quiet the noise and avoid further wear and tear on your power steering, try adding some fluid. To find and repair the leak you'll probably want a qualified mechanic to have a look at the system.

This is the problem with the ignition switch.
The lock cylinder into which the key is inserted, and the electronic switch that sits just behind the lock cylinder are not in proper alignment with each other.
Probably before you plan to replace the switch you can take the switch of and put it back in, many a times that will fix the alignment issue.

If your car has the xenon headlights, it might be a faulty xenon ballast/regulator module. You car has daytime running lights so they are on at a low power setting all the time.

The nylon bush in the steering colum is tight on steering shaft. You have to remove the steering wheel to get to it.You can spray with some light lube and that should sort it.
