SOURCE: 1996 Toy Tocoka ignition/starter

that is a starter solenoid problem.

starter has its own solenoid. the big round thing besides the real motor.

it has contacts inside which could be worn out .

that is why sometimes it make contact and sometimes not.

Dirty terminals, happens all the time. Did you have the battery tested? Or just know it's OK? Did you check the water? How about the electrolytes? Get the terminals cleaned off with a wire brush, and scrape the insides, make sure they are tight. I have replaced more batteries this week, must be the weather. One was stone dead, 5 volts and still started the car?? Couldn't believe it, good car. The other 2 were dead with 12+ volts but wouldn't start anything, both got new terminals, and both got cleaned up. NO problems. Check it out. Lastly, the solenoid in the starter could be bad if everything else checks out, whack it with a hammer while turning the key, if it jumps, you found it.

many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.

check the voltage on the battery ,, it should read a minimum of 12.4 volts, Ive bought batteries before that had lost some charge , if it has the right voltage,, tap on the relay you hear clicking (you'll need help , someone to try turning it over) make sure all connections are clean,, if that doesn't work, your going to have to have the starter checked

The car would not start even with a jump. In fact it didn't sound like it was beginning to turn over at all. A test of the batter revealed that it had 1 volt! So I installed a new battery thinking...

Hi this sounds more like a starter motor problem, what you can do is locate the starter motor on your vehicle, using either a long bar or a hammer tap the starter then try turning the motor..if that does not work, get someone to help tap the starter while you turn the ignition at the same time this should free the solinoid on the starter, once you have started your vehicle, turn it off and try again without tapping the starter motor, if it fails to turn over then you will need a new starter, if it starts as normal, turn it off 2 or 3 more times just to make sure it continues to start hope this helps please vote thanks good luck

Starter motor relay! - not sure which one it is - definitely sounds like starter relay tho.
if you disconnect the main wire from the starter and turn the key you will kear the relay clicking, find it and replace it... should solve your problem.
