What is wrong with my 2004 mazda rx8. Cat. Converter was glowing red, running poorly & louder than normal. Changed cat & resinatorpipe but problem persists.

RAW FUEL IS ENTERING THE EXHAUST AND BURNING IN THE CAT. YOU MUST HAVE AN ENGINE MISFIRE ON ONE OR MORE CYLINDERS CAUSING THE SUPPLIED FUEL TO THE ENGINE NOT TO GET BURNED. I WOULD SUSPECT A BAD SPARK PLUG OR PLUG WIRE GIVING YOU TROUBLE AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RUN ROUGH AND ALSO CAUSING THE FUEL TO NOT GET BURNED IN THE CYLINDER

I have 2004 rx8 when I shift from first to second, second to third have to wait for rmps to come down or it will grind same with down shifting only in those two gears plus check engine light comes on and...

The first thing to check is to see if your clutch is completely disengaging as this will still the shaft to spin and will over ride the synchros. Just because you have your foot to the floor dosen't mean the the clutch is working properly. Suggest you check and bleed the clutch m/ cyl. As for the misfire have you used the correct plugs as the rotary dosen't like cheap plugs( I have one)

The trailing spark plugs have no spark

I have only recently fixed this problem on my 2004 RX8. My trailing sparks were not working causing misfire in 2nd cylinder. Common problem is the coil packs. Each plug has a seperate coil pack and unfortunately not cheap.

I changed all four plugs and all four coil packs which cost me around 30 per plug and 80 per coil pack. If you call around you will get these prices, however mazda charge over double so do not go there!

You can get away with only the trailing as a cheaper option but the strain may cause the leading to go aswell!! I only got my rx8 a week ago and already shelled out 800 on it!! Wish i kept my BMW now!

Coil problem [ misfire DTC code]

rx8 have a history of coil packs going bad internally and grounding out. best way to check if theyre bad is to pull the packs and inspect the back side. if you have discolorationg on the back side your packs are bad or are going to be bad soon. inspect the plugs if they are fouled or burnt replace them along with the coil packs.its a good idea to replace the wires too. and do not use cheap aftermarket parts. this will only cause more problems in the future. use oem or performance parts.
