Missing fire on a cylinder how to diagnose which one ?

With a scan tool the ECU should tell you what cylinders are registering missfires. Easiest way to tell what cylinder is not firing is with a laser pyometer. You can point it at the exhaust manifold at each cylinder and find what ones are cool. Also I would suggest looking for a vacuum leak after the mass meter. Either in the air inlet pipe or around the intake manifold.

1998 chevy 5.7 wouldn't start or even try to fire. Ended up buying new plugs, that made it try but ended up haveing to remove all the plugs , turned the motor over 8-9 times let it sit awhile did it again...

Check the timing and also test the wires for the proper amount of resistance. Fuel pressure should be checked also. Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing must all be correct.

I can get high RPM but no power, especially at takeoff, feels "jerky"

sounds like a missfire. You will need to see a mechanic so he can check the missfire counter and see if this is the case!

your car is not suppose to idle at 500 rpm . 800 to 950 is the proper idle, unfortunately it is controlled by the computer. have you checked the idle speed control valve? also check the air flow meter
