Check radiator. Make sure there no leaks and no smoke comjng from it (make sure u do this when the engine is cold). Ur thermostat could also be broken. If u need a new radiator its about 350. A thermostat will run u 100 in labor, total 150.

SOURCE: Overheating engine

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

2003 PT Cruiser interior and dash lights not working

If your car's overheating, make sure you have enough coolant in the system. While you're under the hood look for disconnected wires near dash then check your fuse box for broken fuses. Please check your coolant, little to no coolant = a new engine ~$5000!

Pt overheating within 5 minutes 2001 2litre auto how do I change cambelt thx mike

Hi,
Engine overheating? Check:
1. Coolant level at cold
2. Coolant leak check for loss of, during "not hot" running condition. (water pump, hoses)
If above is ok, I would replace the thermostat. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do.

Cam belt not addressed in this response...

Hope this helps with the overheating problem... Good luck!
