Question about 2004 Mazda 6
Hi guys would appreciate if you'll could help me diagnose this problem i've been facing for a while now. If anyone has had this problem and managed to sort to sort it out please throw some light on the matter. At first the engine check light would come on but the vehicle would work fine but the hold light blinks and the button on the gear knob wont just work to shut it down and the engine revs much higher in every gear till 3rd and then it wont shift. This is an automatic transmission so could the fault lie there or it some emission problem which i read in another blog? Please guys i need your help. If anyone knows anything please let me know.
It could possibly be an emission problem or ur transmission. Most likely your transmission especially if theres a lot of miles. With a problem like this there is no specifics to truely point out what it is. I suggest taking it to a mechanic that can plug it into a computer and tell u the code of the problem and then go from there

I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist

Check transmission fluid. If that is full, try changing the fuel filter. It could be starving for gas, and trying to shift but can't. It could also be the speed sensor, or shift solenoid.

There seem to be 4 sensors along the way in the air intake and emissions system.
My Check Engine light indicated a bad sensor 1, bank 2 code (I think).
I had my mechanic replace the sensor that was indicated as faulty... cost = $191.
Then the Check Engine light came on again (with a different code), and I had to leave the van with him all day.
Cost to replace and install that sensor = $115.
My advice: if the Check Engine light stays on *AND* your vehicle is riding rough, get it fixed.
Otherwise, put a piece of tape over that Check Engine light and save a couple hundred dollars!
Hope this helps, I do trust my mechanic fully.

Testimonial: "Thanks for taking the time to post your advice re my MPV problem. Although not a definitive solution, it's certainly good advice."
I have the same problem with my car I think its the torque converter clutch but you should visit a diagonestic machine just to find out
