Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1998 S-10 will not turn over

I just replaced the starter on my s-10, and after I got it all bolted back together turn the key no click no nothing. My solenoid is tripping so I'm assuming I'm getting power that far. I jumped the starter and it turned right over, but I had the starter tested anyway. I traced the line all the way to the fuse box, sliced a small amount of the insulating wire off to test, and no power outside of the fuse box. Replace the relay right. Nothing. Any ideas?

Next time it won't start turn headlights on and see if they dim when you turn key to start, if they dim its most likely starter, if they don't dim possible starter switch, Have you tried to start it in neutral position? Try that, if it starts in neutral than its park neutral switch, if not could be starter switch, Just make sure you chk. all fuses and any relays associated with ignition first.

Your ECU is what acctivates your fuel pump realy. Put the key on the run possition and pull the ecu fuse for a few seconds and reinstall it ans it should accivate your realy for 5 seconds, Good luck.

does it have a chip key?
and does your dash lights come on when you turn the key on?
if it doesnt have a chip key and the dash lights come on then turn the key too run position put on the ememency brake and try jumping across the starter, if it startes the probleb is in the netural safty switch!!

Hi!2012 Chrysler Town and Country front wheel drive. Where is the starter. Front, back, side? Is it hard to get to?


Front right as you look down on the engine. Follow the dip stick pipe down to it's bottom, (yellow). It will be to the right of where the pipe enters the engine block, fitted from left to right, (red). See photo.

Nissan want crank replaced the starter got a new Battery only a clicking sound nothing more


Perform a voltage drop test on + starter cable and - cable. Verify for acid corrosion on both cable also verify power and grounds at the starter relay, so the starter relay its working correctly! Verify when you cycle the key to "crank" you have " power signal" at the starter! The "power signal cable" its the thin one that. plugs directly to the starter.

The batteries on my panterra are charged, yet i turn the key and nothing. Can I by bpass the key?/


Thew red battery cable goes to a relay which engages the starter. When you turn the key the relay should click and engage the starter. If it is a one wire relay pull the wire off and use a screw driver or similar tool to jump form the batter terminal on relay to the bolt like thing the wire was on. This should engage the relay and starter. If it does not then the relay needs to be replaced.

Turn key to start and nothing


Low or dead battery most likely, use this procedure to trouble shoot the system:
READ THIS ALL BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
NOTE: some vehicles have the starter relay and starter mounted together as 1 unit. Sometimes the starter relay and starter are seperate. When I refer to "relay" it could also mean the starter and relay as 1 unit.
Note: "starter switch" is not to be confused with "key switch", although sometimes they are all one unit. The starter switch is usually mounted on the steering column and actuated by a metal rod. On units that are all one unit, the keyswitch/starter switch (both one unit) will have to be replaced. (this is a rare problem, so don't get worried just yet)
1. Check battery voltage, should be between 12.5-14.5 volts. if low voltage replace or charge battery, and try to start car, if it don't crank with new or charged battery, move on.
2. Check connections on the starter relay, even the small one coming from your starter switch. if loose or corroded, clean with a brush and reconnect them. Try to start your car. Did it start? if not, Move on
3. Well now we know the connections aren't the problem. How about a click? did you hear one? If a click is heard, go to #4, if nothing is heard, go to #5
4. Well at least the relay is clicking, but nothing else is going on. The relay is working, so the starter must be bad. Replace the starter and start your car!
5. Humm, connections aren't the problem, maybe the relay is bad, replace your relay with a new one. Move on
6. Now we have a new relay, with clean and tight connections. Start your car. Does it start? If yes, then HORRAY! we fixed it. Does it click? If so then goto #7, If it don't click, then goto #8
7. So here we have a new relay, with good connections that will click when trying to start the car, but nothing else happens. Starter is faulty, replace the starter, and off you go, see ya!
8. So here we have a new relay, with good connections, but it still won't click when we try to start our car. This means that your starter switch is faulty. Replace starter switch and try to start your car. Vroom! finally done with this car problem!
List of shortcuts: if you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the relay and apply +12v to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. You can actually hook up a starter button this way. If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken.

1994 dodge shadow es 3.0 v6 will not start. when I turn the key I can hear one single click then nothing. All lights work, replaced starter, checked battery terminals and wires for corrosion, fly whee


Replace the starter solenoid. Make sure you hook the wires back properly. Try jumping across the solenoid with cables to see the starter crank. That makes a direction to the starter. That's what the solenoid does. It connects those 2 cable ends together to make the starter crank over.

Check the voltage to the starter. You might not be able to get enough if the writes are too corroded. Might need to replace to damaged parts of wires

When i turn my key all i hear is a click is that my starter?


A single click is the solenoid on the starter engaging. This is a pretty typical symptom of a bad starter if everything else seems normal.

Rapid repeated clicking while the key is in the crank position is a good sign the battery is to weak to turn the engine over.

Back to the single click. Try turning the key to the crank position rapidly and repeatedly. Sometimes this will make the starter work wich will also confirm that it is bad.

sounds like bad starter remove starter take to parts store and have it tested (most parts store do this for free)
make sure motor turns over take a breaker bar and socket and put on crank pulley bolt and turn clockwise
