Question about 2003 GMC Yukon Denali

4L65E trans wont shift finto 3rd & 4th. reverse, 1 & 2 are ok

My truck won't shift into third gear. But it does OK in 1st, reverse, and 2nd. My security light flashes on while driving as well. Please help ID the issue

did you check the fuses some have a shift fuse ive seen them blow often

SOURCE: Truck is fine in 1st and 2nd, but when it shifts into higher gear engine revs high and just coasts. Suspect 3rd and maybe 4th is shelled out. Any other possibilities?

no sound like 3 and 4 are gone.you will have to replace the tran . good luck

sounds like a modulator problem,make sure you have vaccume going to the modulator on the tranny, start the truck leave it in park pull of the vaccume line at the tranny , if its got fluid in it then its bad, and make sure you have vaccume too it!!!!

Sounds like your transmission is in limp mode. This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

The other from what you described, trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

96 mazda 626 not shifting into 4th gear


You basically need the trans rebuilt. The only way the speed sensor could affect any of the shifting problems is if it broke off into the trans. somehow. You could try checking the trans fluid first, or having it changed.

Probably a shift solinoid in the gear box. My commodore has 2 (1st & 2nd) & (3rd & 4th) my 3 / 4 solinoid went so went 1st 2nd 3rd but not to 4th until I replaced it.

Transmision starts out in 1st shifts to 2nd then third but will not shift into overdrive , but once it reaches 3rd gear ,it stays there when you come to a stop . after that it will only shift manually...

Won't shift from 1st to 2nd gear. it skips from 1st to 3rd


reverse reaction shell splines are stripped out inside trans, also has no reverse or 4th gear. very common, needs trans overhauled.

If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2


  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.
  • Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

1995 Sabb 900 clutch wont engege in reverse


Bad syncro for third gear. Sorry, but you aren't fixing this one yourself, unless you replace the transmission yourself.

Wont shift from 2nd to third


I need more in. from what you told me 3-4 clutces smoked needs trans overhaul! Did you try manualto shift trans from 1st 2nd 3rd & 4th? How is reverse if it works? Did you can for codes & ck fluid?

E40d trans will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, only rev. 1+2


check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine
