SOURCE: Right lower ball joint. Torn loose

If you torn the ball joint out, you very well could have more damage.
If you plan on doing the work yourself, I would put the car up on stands, and take the front wheel off, and do a through examination of the whole assembly.
Once you have a complete assesement of all of the damage you can go to your local parts house and get the parts.
If you have to replace the lower arm, you will need probably need some specialized tools (like a spring compressor).
After you're done changing parts, you will need to get a front end alignment.

SOURCE: Lower Control Arm Bushing replacement

Hi,
I just did this job on my 98 regal, and I own the service manuals also. The lower control arm bushing that usually goes, is the front one. The rear one doesn't usually go, it is horizontally mounted. The front one for some reason is vertical. The control arm must be removed, and put in a vise. The front bushings outer metal sleeve, must be driven out with a chisel. It comes out easily. The new bushing can be tapped in with a hammer. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Can you replace the lower ball joints in the control arms

You can replace them seperately, but they need pressed out and in. Other methods of removing and installing likely will damage control arm.

After fill ups, engine light indicates deffective 02 sensor bank1. On a '04, Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.8.

You must have duel exhast then. Bank 1 is the drivers side and you have a upper and lower o2 sensor. More than likely it is the upper o2 sensor that is the problem.

Control arm

Control arms are the parts that hold the ball joints (upper and lower) and attach to the vehicle frame. Look in back of the tires. The lower control arm, in your case, will have a torsion bar (a bar that serves as a spring)making the repair more labor intensive. Cost will vary based on labor rates, parts cost/mark up. Sorry I can't give you a figure but hope it helps at least to identify the parts.

How Labor intensive is it to replace the drivers side lower control arm? I had a shop tell me that the engine has to be removed, and 15 hours of labor are involved

I what to make sure this is correct, this is a 2004 lexus rx 330 and the shop said it was 15 hours to replace the lower control arm. This sounds crazy but it is ture, the engine and trans must be removed to replace the lower control arm, i would replace them both as the labor is only 1/2 hour more to do both, and it inculde an alignment in that time also. its a dumb design. hope this helps good day.

99 grand caravan--hear a knocking in front suspension--recently replaced both sway bar links-still knocks--is it most likely lower ball joints? 170k miles--love the van, still goes great

The knocking could be ball joints, control arm bushings, worn strut mounts or struts, missing or damaged spring isolators or a broken coil spring. All of these things are easily diagnosed once the truck is up on a lift , with the exception of the strut, since it cannot be tested unless it is completely removed from the vehicle. However struts should be replaced every 50,000-75,000 miles.

How to replace s500 control arms How much do they cost, and it there an additional ball joint. My mechanic tacked this on. I thing the control arm and ball joing is one unit.

To replace the lower control are you need to unbolt it from the subframe, airmatic strut, sway bar link and from the lower ball joint. The lower ball joint is separate from the lower control arm. The ball joint actually gets pressed into the steering knuckle. Then the lower control arm sits on top of the ball joint and gets bolted down. The lower control arms list price are about $330 each and the ball joints are around $78 each for oem mercedes parts. The total labor for both to be replaced is somewhere between 6-8 flag hours. The thrust arms are also part of the front suspension and those arms are one piece that have a ball joint as part of the arm. The lower control arm usually doesn't need to be replaced unless its damaged since the control arm bushings are available separately and are around $73 each side for the kit.

How to change lower ball joint on 1993 caravan.

Very simple...I don't have my Chilton's in front of me but I can tell you the easiest way to know is to look UNDER the ball joint. If you don't see screws or rivits....it is pressed in. Looking at replacement parts....it is pressed.

You can replace it yourself if you have a ball joint press...or, take it to NAPA or similar store that presses joints....but you have to remove the lower control arm and take it in. That can be the cheapest route also.....saves A LOT from labor from the garage mechanics!!!!!
