Question about 1995 Volvo 850

Open Question

Check engine light on and stays on until the ignition is shut off. The manual says, it is probably emission related and should not affect the drive ability of the car. This is a 1995 850 Volvo with 78000k'sShould I get this checked ASAP, or can I wait a few weeks when oil change is due. Will be driving 4 days a week to work.

SOURCE: emissions engine check light came on

that's because your emissions system wearing down or failing doesn't effect the car it just means your car is causing more pollution than normal

P0600 is the loss of serial communication link. Generally this is a problem with the wiring in the OBD-II or between the ECU and the connector. Of these is a fault in the ECU. Do you recive any other codes?

Pull the codes to see if it threw another one recently. Some codes will affect emissions and won't hinder driveability so much but some are for components that make the engine run. You may have had an emissions one for a while but recently got hit with a bad cam sensor or something.

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger and my engine light is staying on and my car is driving fine, how can I get this light to turn off so I can use my remote start?

The check engine light is telling you the computer has found a problem with the performance of the engine that can affect fuel mileage or emissions. You have to have the computer scanned for trouble codes, fix the problem, then clear the codes from memory to make the light go off. An auto parts store can scan the computer for free but the light will stay on until the problem is fixed.
The problem with the wipers could be the delay part of the motor.

Engine problem related to fuel refill

Evaporative emission
The Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP) is used to prevent gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere from the fuel tank and fuel system. The EVAP system usually requires no maintenance, but faults can turn on the Check Engine light and prevent a vehicle from passing an OBD II plug-in emissions test.
EVAP Evaporative Emission Control System - AA1Car.com Is the check engine light on ? Do you have problems with gas pump shutting off while pumping gas. When the pump shuts off the first time do stop fueling or top off the tank ? Overloading the charcoal canister > Stuck open purge valve .

Why doesnt my engine light go off

Auto Zone will scan your computer and find out what that code is for free (except in CA), just be sure to get them to write them down or print them so you can post them here. Check the fuse for the cigarette lighter, it is probably blown. The owners manual will show you the location of that fuse.

Do you have the OBD II codes for this light?

If you don't, you should take it to a mechanic to get the code. Many garages won't charge for finding the code, or they will usually charge under $30. Just cuz your car seems to be fine, doesn't mean it is. It could be something simple like a bad sensor that needs replacing, or it could detect something like your engine's misfiring or a broken or clogged catalytic converter. The computer will usually compensate so you won't notice a difference while driving...

U have an ignition related problem, have the system tested for the trouble code that is stored in memory any time the check engine light comes on to determine what is causing this issue. check engine lights have nothing to do with oil level or pressure, they indicate electronic control problems with the engine, trans or emission system.

I had a wire connector on the front of the engine that had so much tension, the wires broke. I didn't notice until a wet day when the car wouldn't start (and the Check Engine light was on). VW Passat 2001: Exhaust emission warning lamp flashing. Manual says 'blinks if the catalyst can be damaged by misfires'. Any suggestions?

"Check engine light" EMISSIONS WORKSHOP! Do you want to shut it off??? After reading all of the negative comments and how much money Passat owners have spent due to this manufacturer's problem, I am going to save the day and save you $$$ by showing you how to "reset" the diagnostic computer which makes the "emissions workshop-check engine light come on! (This is the same thing the VW dealer will charge you hundreds of dollars to do.) To turn off the "Check Engine" (Emissions Workshop) light, simply follow these 5 basic steps:
1. Pop open the hood.
2. Insert the key in the ignition and turn without starting the engine until all of the dash indicators light and warning tones sound.
3. With the key still in the ignition, use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen and completely disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery. Wait about 60 seconds before reconnecting.
4. Re-connect and tighten the negative (-) cable to the battery and close the hood.
5. Start the engine. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS GONE OUT!
If the light stays on, then there really is a problem. If it has turned off, be glad, but don't be surprised to see it come on again in a few weeks. If it comes on again, simply follow steps 1-5. Remember... This quick repair is for those who just can't stand looking at this light or afford to visit VW every time this light comes on. If you feel the need to service the vehicle, service the vehicle. I hope this has made your "NIGHTMARE" a little easier!!!
