SOURCE: Front heater fan control switch gets hot and melts. Why?

this is an easy one, the blower motor is drawing to much current, this happens as they wear out, replace the blower motor aNd all will be well in chevy land.

SOURCE: Heater on my 2001 chevrolet silverado will not

On the firewall there is a valve that opens to allow coolant into the heater core to provide heat. This can stick.
Otherwise there is a blender door in the venting itself. This door can stick allowing only warm air and no cold air.
If you are having problems with the blower motor not turning off when the truck is shut off, then that would be a sticking relay under the hood. The relay will have to be replaced.

Hi, check your coolant level. When the coolant level falls below a certain level the heater core is bypassed. It would also explain your truck overheating if the coolant level was low. If your coolant is that low, check to see where the coolant is going. External leaks are not too bad, but those engines (4.3 and 2.2) were prone to internal gasket leaks also. Check your oil, it shouldn't be milky white.

does this truck have dual climate or electric thermometer in the heat/ac control panel. if so the elec. therm. may be stuck and not allowing the temp to drop but so low in the truck therefore you get cold air but no heat because the therm. says it is already hot in the truck. hope this helps.

Temperature gauge fluctuates and the heater blows cold air

Definitely check your fluid level in your radiator. Top it off all the way. I've seen that happen multiple times on cars that were low on anti-freeze. If that doesn't work try replacing your thermostat. It's cheap and the easiest place to start if topping off the fluid doesn't get you fixed up.

Heat only blows out briefly then changes to cold air

Heater core could be pluged up, try flushing it out, it could have sedament build up restricting flow into heater core. Also make sure its full of coolant.
