I have 2011 Mercury Mariner and it has a rattling noise when I turn on my rear windshield wiper blade. The dealership is telling me this is normal but it doesn't sound normal to me. Any issues with this?

SECTION 419-10: Multifunction Electronic Modules 2005 Escape/Mariner/Escape Hybrid Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Procedure revision date: 06/30/2004 Module Controlled Functions The smart junction box (SJB) is the multifunction electronic control module on this vehicle. The SJB is a combination of a multifunction control module and an interior power junction box. SJB functions control multiple systems, which include:

• illuminated entry and interior lamps
• exterior lamps
• power door locks
• smart locks
• remote keyless entry (RKE) keypad
• RKE system
• warning chimes
• rear windshield wiper

The SJB is located under the front passenger side floor console. For removal information, refer to Smart Junction Box (SJB) in this section. For additional information on the interior lamps and illuminated entry, refer to Section 417-02 . For additional information on the exterior lighting, refer to Section 417-01 . For additional information on the power door locks, the RKE keypad, and the RKE system, refer to Section 501-14 . For additional information on the rear windshield wiper, refer to Section 501-16 . For additional information on the perimeter anti-theft, refer to Section 419-01A . For additional information on the climate control system, refer to Section 412-00A (Escape, Mariner), or Section 412-00B (Escape Hybrid). Struts are relatively expensive to replace. they are not for the average DIY. Go get second opinion and then third. Get prices. Do not tell second and third shop that you have taken it to other shop. I don't know how old the vehicle is so I don't know the value. If you sell it the buyer may want the struts replaced or deduct price from car. Your call. Struts, tires., battery, belts, filters, light bulbs, wiper blades wear out need replacing.

It can be faulty wiper motor or blown wiper control fuse.

Do you hear any kind of noise when you starter the wiper function. If yes then fuse is ok, but issue is wiper motor.

If no movement at all and no noise then its blown fuse or shorted/loose wiper control wiring: -----

usually it's under leaf screen at base of windshield. remove wiper arms and screen to get access

frozen motor. remove a rear door cover, and turn on rear wiper and listen for motor noise, also check fuse
