I would give the throttle body a goof clean with carb cleaner making sure the butterfly flap gets a clean due to build up or carbon. If it's not closing properly it will idle rough and possibly cut off. Also might be worth checking the idle control valve.unplug it unbolt it take it off a spray the inside with carb cleaner let it dry and replace. Hope this helps
you have built up carbon in your fuel system, try buying a bottle of Lucas that will clean up your fuel jets, you also need a engine cleaner Run a better octane gas not the highest but, one in the middle, than drive it by punching the gas peddle off and on quickly to blow out the exhaust lines and your eg valve that builds up carbon and also the lines, sometime these have to be taken off and c leaned manually in a bucked of kerosene good luck
Lets start off like this there is 50 different things that can cause these issues but will start with the simple things in a list. So here it goes
1. bad spark plugs (carbon fouled, fuel fouled, oil fouled, heat glazed, or just worn out rounded electrode's ) 2. spark plug wires (there is no simple way to check this but there cheap and easy to try) 3. distributor cap & igniton rotor (or coil pack if so equipped) could be corroded carbon glazed heat glazed again thought both rotor button and distributor cap are cheap and easy to change. If it is a coil cheap to and just as easy on both this is were plug wires connet to on the oppsite end of spark plugs. 4. coil pick up (this sits underneath distributor cap and rotor and is cheap and easy to fix aswell) 5. clogged air filter 6. bad pcv valve 7. bad egr valve 8. bad fuel pressure regulator 9.bad fuel pump or clogged strainer 10. vaccum line leaking or off
I know with all that being said may sound overwelming but most are easy to fix and cheap this is what i would so first do a good tune up this includes new spark plugs , plug wires, air filter , pcv valve, fuel filter distributor cap and rotor (or coil pack if so equipped ) .
That will most likley fix your problem
If it helps please leave 4 thumbs up and if it works a testomnial thanks
signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator. the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start usually in the mornings. many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. black soot on plugs, blake smoke from tailpipe, running rough, stalling. you could have residue in fuel tank and need to change fuel filter again. have a very good day !!
Nitrogen purging the poppet valves. This is very common on these vehicles. Also, remove a piece inside the rotor if you used a dealer part. There is a screen inside for marine use, problem is it get gunked up and traps moisture, just remove this screen, its not necessary. If you find the rotor gets greenish, this is probably your problem here. High tension wires now days last over 80-100kms, no need to replace these and use AC delco spark plugs. It does make a difference which plugs you use.
check for leaks around the intake manifold, vacuum hoses and engine breather system. Look for loose wires, check the plug leads. Check the valve lifters for clearances, or faults if hydraulic you should hear them rattling while the engine is idling.Look at the disi cap, rotor and the cap itself for dirt, damp or carbon build up. I hope this helps
Its just fouled some plugs again. Need an overhaul. If you just put a valve job on it it will just put more stress on the rings and will need it anyway. Not much you can do except change plugs all the time! God Bless Greg
1972 chev 2.5 trimatic idleing when in gear swtches off or stalls.
