What would make the control module keep going out in my '91 Chevy caprice?

A bad alternator or wireing issues--unregulated voltage in system--u need a data stream run with factory type gear to read values and pinpoint problem--dont go to a dealer--their help is poor-go to a good private mech

Try replacing your fuel pump relay, Its common on chevys.Those fuel pumps are too expensive to keep replacing

use a voltmeter, connect the black lead to the ground, then probe each one with the red lead. The one that gives you the 12V reading is the positive. Thats the surest way to find out.

My 1980 caprice wont shift like it not getting proper vacum for transmission


Replace the vacuum modulator valve on the transmission . First off I would test it . You would need to buy a hand held vacuum pump ! and find the vacuum hose at the transmission an test for vacuum there . Do you know what a vacuum modulator valve is ? How do and change the electric control module 83 Chevy Caprice Classic


Not too difficult.
You just switch out the PROM which is a chip in the computer that transfers from one to the other.
The ECM should be behind the radio or glove box.
Be careful with the pins when you plug the harnesses in.

check for bad ground connection...loose wire or ground will cause overheating and damage to module

most times this is repaired by replacement of the drivers door power window control switch panel located in the drivers door panel(the one that you push to open/close windows etc.

Ignition module. They get hot and shut down. After they cool they work again.

Also do not let tank run low because fuel in tank keeps in tank pump cool. This is why the pump is in the tank.
