My 2007 Jeep Cherokee has gone into limp home mode twice in the last week. Each time no dash warnings come up, but after sitting idle at a stoplight it suddenly won't go above about 2,300 RPM. I took it to the mechanic and he said everything looked fine and there were no active or saved codes. Additionally, my Jeep has had problems with the dash going crazy. It's done it maybe three times over the last three years. It doesn't happen at the same time as the limp home mode, but maybe the two things are related? From what I found on Google, the dash lighting up all the icons and the speedometer going crazy is a common problem in Jeeps...
Are you still running on the original transmission? If the transmission is beginning to fail, it will put it self into limp mode on the assumption that you don’t want to overspeed the engine. At least on these jeeps, it will reset it self for a while, whereas a Honda will lock itself into limp mode at the first glimpse of a transmission slip, and will NOT reset.
Bad battery, or bad ground. If thats not it put a code reader on it while its running in limp mode and see what she says.
