SOURCE: need timing belt mark diagram for 95 corolla 4afe

malibluert: YOUR IN LUCK! This series engine is simple and the references aren't hard to find. READY???????
IF you are just trying to reset the belt at the top and have not remover the crank pulley, bring the crank around to Top dead center on the # 1 cylinder,. It will read Zero degrees on the timing mark scale.
Up top, look at the cam gear closely You will see that there are 5 spokes which support the actual gear. Look closer and you will see that one of these spokes has a small hole in it about 3/4th of the way towards the outside of the gear. Position the gear to where that hole is at 12:00 PM. NOW, if you look thorough the hole, you should should see a small notch that the hole should be centered on. If not, move the gear until you can look through the hole and the notch falls dead center. At that point in time, you have the crank ant camshaft in perfect time with each other.
When you put the belt on, make sure that the side which is slack is the tensioner side. You should be able to slip the belt on, matching the teeth with the teeth on the gears to where one side is fairly tight and you can not roll the cam counter clockwise.
IF you are replacing the belt, you have the crank pulley off and you position the woodruff key straight up at 12:00 PM and the procedures are all the same other than that. when you set the tension. A good rule of thumb is to find the longest span of belt, and with your thumb and forefinger twist the belt. if it twists to 45 degrees toward the block, it's perfect. Any more or less, needs to be reset.
I hope my answer suffices. A picture wouldn't be any more clear.
Let me know how you did.
NOTE: This engine does NOT bend valves when a timing belt fails.

SOURCE: need timing marks for a 1996 pontiac grand am se 2.4 DOHC

YOU WILL SEE A HOLE IN THE CAM GEAR THAT A 3/8 BOLT WILL FIT INTO. PUT A BOLT INTO THE HOLES OF BOTH CAM GEARS. THEN LINE UP THE CRANK PULLEY KEYWAY AT ABOUT 12 O'CLOCK WITH THE MARK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK.

MAKE SURE TO COMPRESS THE CHAIN TENSIONER AND RELEASE IT WHEN THE CHAIN IS IN POSITION.

in the absence of you not making marks or observations

best guess is crank mark is a straight line to top cam mark

other wise old school way
both number one valves closed
number one piston at top compression point
lower harmonic balancer at TDC timing mark
distributor rotor at number one plug lead pick up
top cam should be at its correct timing mark

Is base timing automatically set by the ecu on a 99 chevy astro van. Did a intake gasket (upper and lower) job. Now van runs like the timing is off. What's the correct advance number?

You may be one tooth off on the distributor. With the cap off and battery disconnected rotate the engine to the small timing mark in the crank pully. There should be a small line in the pully and a single finger or mark on the timing cover. Now look at the distributor. The rotor should be in line with the 6 molded into the plastic. Hope this helps!! I was one off after doing intake gaskets and this is what helped me.

I had to replace the intake gasket on my 2002 5.7L GMC 2500 Savana van and failed to make the distributor position. How do I readjust the timing?

you will have to bring the #1 piston to TDC on it's compression stroke (use timing mark if there is one or probe the plug hole to see when it's all the way up). To do this, you have to either pull the timing cover to check the cam sprocket marks or pull the valve cover to watch the intake valve close ahead of the compression stroke. Then, with the piston at TDC, you get the distributor rotor to align with #1 on the cap when fully seated. OK?

1995 acura how do u set the vals and timming

First you will need a service manual or information for this vehicle for the valve lash setting. The procedure is usually removing the valve cover( You will need a new valve cover gasket) putting the # 1 cylinder on top dead center and using wrench, screw driver or allen key,and a feeler gauge. You will need to follow the firing order when adjusting the valves. You will need a timing light to set the timing and also the timing spec. This usually involves warming engine to normal operating temp. clean harmonic balancer and mark the timing mark with some white paint loosen the the distributor hold down bolt hook up timing light and turn distributor until the timing mark on the balancer lines up with the timing mark on the timing cover then tighten the holding bolt back down. Also the timing advance has to be disabled when setting the timing and enabled when you are done. The valves should be set first then set the timing. A Haynes manual available at your local auto parts store should contain pictures and information to help you do this.

Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears to the notches on the camshaft cover, using the intake gear mark for the intake gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust gear.
Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the
notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

Timing

Hi,
The 3L 24V straight 6 engine has timing marks on the crankshaft pulley & on the camshaft pulleys. The crankshaft pulley aligns with a mark on the front of the block, the camshafts align with two marks on the plastic cover on the top. The ignition timing, the fuel/air mixture & the valve timing are not adjustable. The 3L engine is known as an "Interference" engine, in other words, if the cam belt breaks or is not set up correctly, the pistons 'meet' the valves, with dire consequences!!!!!
