Sounds like the transmission cooler tank with in the radiator has gone bad, the transmission lines can go on either way, does not matter, replace radiator and have cooling system flush and have a transmission flush also done.

SOURCE: DEX/MERC okay for 1992 Plymouth Voyager?

I would not use it unless your owners manual specifys Dexron. I know on the Gen. 1 Voyagers ie.1984 to 1990 They required Mopar ATF+3 or transmission damage and failure was common if DEXRON was used.

Try a local "Jiffy Lube" as they should know correct type and keep your receipt if you use them as they should have warranty/guarantee as well.

What type transmission fluid do I use ?

Same as all the other newer dexron fluids

Don't use Dex IV or newer VI

All you have to do is read the back of the bottle
The vehicle year are on it

WalMart has Castrol in northeast anyway

My 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue will start, but it won't move. Someone told me it was my transmission that went out, could it be this or something else? Problem happened at 180,000 miles. The mechanic told...

  • I don't know about reasonable. I don't know how they can assess something they have not seen with a price like that unless they are gunning for a full transmission replacement which is shady, in my opinion. Some other possibilities should have been voiced. Yes it could be the transmission needs replaced but there are some things to consider and check first.
  • Have you checked the transmission fluid level yet? Low fluid will butterfly the transmission.
  • Fluid over 50,000 miles needs replaces as well. Don't do this yet unless you get the transmission going or it may be a waste of money. If you get it going again and the miles call for it then flush the transmission fluid.
  • When is the last time you changed the transmission filter and gasket (sold as a kit)? A really clogged filter can inhibit your vehicle like that and make it not drive.
  • Open the hood and look at the transmission linkage. Now have someone get into the car and put their foot on the brake and drop it into gear. Do you see the linkage (on top of the transmission) move back and forth as they switch gears? If not then the linkage is hung up somewhere. If not then the linkage may be fine.

  • These are some things to look at before you go for the new transmission. I might suggest you get the opinion of a transmission shop first or at least the opinion of someone willing to do a little diagnosing first.

  • Hope this helps and good luck to you.
  • Thank you for using FixYa.

I dont have one...changing fluid in a 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x4,and i would like to know if i could use atf plus 4 instead of dex 2 or 3. thats what it calls for

Read the label. On the bottle there should be a list of the older transmission fluids that this is acceptable for replacement. If Dexron 2 or 3 is not on that list, don't use it. Transmission fluids are made to different specifications based on the manufacturer's wishes and therefore are not interchangable without creating problems.
If there is no list on the bottle, don't use it. Find a different type that tells you it is compatable with Dexron 2 or 3. Hope this helps.

Transmission is slow to change (automatic) and there is virtually NO pick up. It will get up to a higher speed, but it takes a LONG time.

Sounds like the same thing I'm seeing on my 2003 Pathfinder 4x4 SE. My dad is a mechanic. He thinks that it's my Transmission. Either the Torque Converter or the one way clutch.Check your transmission fluid, when the engine is still warm, and see if the fluid looks brown or black. If it smells burnt and is dark in color (normal transmission fluid is light pink, like strawberry juice) then the transmission is failing and burning up. If the fluid is still light pink, then it could be one of the parts I mentioned above.

In any case, do not drive your car in that condition. Get it to a transmission specialist and they'll be able to able to tell you if they can rebuild it or if you need a new transmission.

I've been online for hours researching this and I've found 6 other people who have had the same thing happen with their 2003 Pathfinders. Between 50K and 130K miles.

Best of luck. I'll post here when I get the news from my transmission guy. Let me know what you find out with yours. Maybe this will help other people.

Ive got a 1995 nissan sentra xe 1.6 with a automatic transmission. ive checked my transmission fluid and its low. i wanna know what brand and kind of transmission oil i should use? someone told me...

Dexron 11 went out of production about 1992

If you have to add, common sense tells you
that it is leaking, work on that issue

The brand don't matte,r but the specification does
I would put that question into your search engine
and also check with a dealer,as the current dex is not good
for your vehicle, only the latest GM veh. The Dex/Merc maybe, but the Multi Vehicle
may also be for Asian Vehicles.
Trying to help, but the exact spec I don't know
Also any trans repair shop will happily tell you

What transmission fluid does a 1984 s-10 wit a v6 four speed tran

your transmission calls for a dexron/mercon 2, anything compatable with dex merc2 will work, even the new dex 3 , or the dex 4. the labels should tell what it is compattible with.

98 toyota camry transmission service.

You can drain and fill your trans. It will take 2.5 -3.0 quarts of DEX III trans fluid....goes in the fill tube. Or you can get said transmission flushed which changes all fluid including torque converter.....about 15 quarts. Way more thorough.
