The pads are dragging because they are not retracting enough. You need to pull the whole caliper off and disassemble. Make sure that there are no burrs in the piston cylinder and the piston is not installed crooked.

Does any one no wat would cause a load squial when I turn and push the brakes in a 2006 poniac pursuit g5 it only happends sometimes


could be a rotor overheating which then causes pads to not grab
- the rotor is the big metal disc the pads grab onto . If it has been machined too often or worn down it can become too small to absorb the heat generated in braking.

Coincidence. Check brake fluid and master cylinder. Check front calipers for failure, possible deployment and pressing the pads against rotors.

Brake rotors getting red hot


Simple:(unless you are racing autocross), the brake pads are not releasing. This can be caused by several posible causes:

Clogged or?fices inside the Master Brake Cylinder.
Malfunctioning brake booster
Sticking brake calipers.
Damaged brake hoses.

A complete brake inspection is necessary, but anyway, overheated disc brake rotors that got red-hot will most probably got twisted or damaged and will be in need of replacement.

In my Stratus (a 2002 turbocharged R/T Sedan) I installed Premium ATE Brand rotors which have an elliptical slot. These Premium discs are needed at my altitude of more tan 7350 ft above sea level because engine vacuum is barely adequate to stop the car, and by using those rorots together with ceramic brake pads from Centris Parts (Posi-Quiet Brand) I achieved much better braking power. Overheating brakes


I think the problem is the brake pad or caliper, brake pad are too thick or the caliper are not good casted.
First try to confirm if you get a right brake caliper ,then confirm the brake disc ,brake pad, if they all ok, tear down the bracket of caliper, put into brake pad, then put into brake rotor.

Back brake smoking


Does now ! change your caliper, rotor and pads, because pads and rotor have overheated from caliper setting up and not floating like should !!

2002 dodge durango 2wd. brakes squeal when braking. i have had rotors and pads replaced.


There are 3 to 4 different compositions of brake pads--some are softer--others are ceramic or metallic---probably you have gotten metallic---which do have a history of squealing much of the time. therefore, check to see if that is what you purchased--if so--there is no mechanical problem. However--a tip--especially in colder, salt-using, (on streets)climates. Lubricate the brake rotor sliders with grease twice a year so they don't stick.

Rotors keep warping


Could be a number of problems. Here are a few.

Defective Brake Pads
  • Brake pads that are defective and/or incorrectly installed can, over time, cause brake rotors to warp and become damaged. Brake pads are responsible for squeezing against the spinning brake rotor, an action that causes a vehicle to slow down or stop. If the brake pads are bent, misshapen in any way, or aligned and/or installed abnormally, they can exert abnormal pressure on the brake rotors, a condition that can cause brake rotor warpage over time.

  • Abnormal Brake Caliper Action
  • An abnormal or malfunctioning brake caliper can result in brake rotor warpage if the degree of brake caliper dysfunction is severe enough. A brake caliper houses a set of vehicle brake pads and provides the squeezing force necessary to squeeze the brake pads against the spinning brake rotor. If a brake caliper applies too much pressure to the brake pads, or if it applies pressure inconsistently, it can cause a brake rotor to warp over time. Adequate brake caliper action is necessary for optimizing brake pad and brake rotor function.

  • Excessive Heat
  • A vehicle's braking system generates a tremendous amount of friction-related heat, heat that normally gets radiated away from the brake pads and brake rotor mechanisms. However, in cases where excessive heat is generated within a braking system and not dispersed adequately, serious brake malfunctions can occur, which can include brake rotor warpage. A stuck brake caliper, old, worn-down brake pads, or a defective brake rotor can cause excessive heat to develop in or around a brake rotor, which can cause brake rotor damage and warpage.

  • Damanged Wheel Hub Spindle
  • A brake rotor assembly is supported by and rides on a long, slender metal tube called a hub, or wheel hub assembly. The hub is what allows for the smooth, even circular motion of the spinning brake rotor. Designed with a smooth, low-friction exterior, the wheel hub assembly is critical to the proper spinning motion of the brake rotor. Any abnormalities or defects with the wheel hub assembly, including hub warpage, cracking or misalignment, can cause abnormal brake rotor rotation, which in turn can cause brake rotor warpage over time. Normally, a damaged wheel hub assembly is noticed and remedied prior to extensive brake rotor damage, as a severely damaged wheel hub assembly will cause a vehicle tire to wobble and shake.

    Squicking bracks


    Sometimes brake dust or dirt builds up and causes this, other times the rotors become overheated and polished surfaces rubbing together make harmonic noise (squeeling). Another problem could be the higher metal content in the pads (if you just replaced with metallic pads) and this is normal squeeking. But if you think the problem is recent and no brake work is suspect, you'll need to raise the front and remove the two tires and inspect. Even if your brake sensor light is not on, check the thickness of the pads by looking through the back of the brake caliper. You should see at least 1/4' pad. If no pad is present you've found the problem, and don't drive any further until you've replaced the pads. If you have pad life, take an emery cloth or 220 higher sand paper and go around the rotor surfaces lightly enough to remove any shine. Spray liberally with brake cleaner the rotors and brake calipers and pads. Reassamble and do the rear brakes. Finally, if that doesn't work, you should check the back of the pad to see if any anti-vibration grease or paste is present. This acts as a dampner to the vibration and holds the pad slightly tighter in the brake caliper.

    Shakes heavily when braking over 50 mph.


    The shaking would be from your front rotors. First, loosen the lugs and retighten them with a torque wrench (not an impact gun) to the proper setting as described by Toyota. If the lugs are tightened unevenly or too tightly, it will artifically warp your rotors. If this does not fix the issue, your rotors are most likely warped from overheating, or being sprayed with water while hot, or from age. Get new rotors (and pads - always use new pads with new rotors), install them, and torque your wheels properly, and you should be in good shape.
