Clunking accelerating or turning sharply to the left.

Check the front suspension ball joints and steering joints. Check wheel bearings and adjustment. Check shock absorber mounts for condition . Check steering insert condition and top mount rubbers and bearings if McPherson strut set up.. If you have a steering shock absorber then check it's condition and mounting

A clunking noise can mean a number of things in a vehicle. Try to locate exactly what part of the vehicle the clunking noise comes from when you hit the gas. Once you determine what part the noise is coming from, it will be easier to determine what problem may be causing the noise.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 1997 toyota rav 4 that makes a clunking noise whenever I turn the wheel. What is it?

Hi

Is it a clunk clunk clunk noise? Then you have a CV joint that needs to be replaced. This is called the CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT, and helps you turn the wheel when it is in motion.

It has ball bearings inside and when the housing wears out, they make that clunking noise.

See your mechanic for a change and see if you can replace both wheels at the same time.

Hope that helps.

Happy motoring.

Clunking noise from water pump side

I would check the front motor mount, it maybe worn out. It bolts to the engine block and down by the radiator bottom.

My car makes clunking noises from the engine area but when the clutch is down at a stand still theirs no clunking just the engine ticking over. the battery light is lit staticly on the display too.

the battery light being on is not normal, this could be what is causing the clunking noises, whenever my battery light comes on i try and race home as fast as i can so i wont be stranded, because i know im running on pure battery power and it will only run for another 15 miles before she dies completely. Before she dies the car is making all kind of noises, clunking backfiring., so your alternator is probably going bad or your serpentine belt is very loose.
