Question about 1994 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

I have a 94 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L With a bad fuel pump. What I would like to know is how to release the fuel pressure in the line before removing the fuel pump. Also do I have to drop the fuel tank to replace the pump? If so what all holds the fuel tank in place? All I see are 2 straps.

Well I released my pressure by pushing in the valve near the injectors under the hood. Make sure your engine is cold when doing this. Only a quick spray then its relieved. I unbolted my bed and jacked it about 5 inches and was able to change my 94 ram fuel pump. Pretty easy this way as those straps may need to be eplaced if removed. I did this 2 years ago. Maybe to an hour or 2. But if your truck has been sitting yow may want to drop the tank to clean it out.

SOURCE: fuel pressure regulator

Have you checked the fuel pressure? If it is high and fuel is not returning, the regulator is bad. If it is low and fuel is not returning, the pump is bad.

Could be your fuel pump or it could be your fuel pressure regulator. Yes the fuel pump is in the tank which has to be removed to change it. Fuel tank will be towards the back of the vehicle

If you have 3 strong friends it is easier to pull the box off the truck-20 minutes- can do with full tank. Don't forget to unhook the taillight wires and the fuel filler neck. When you go back on make sure the tube for the spare tire winch is positioned correctly. Have saw horses to set the box on behind the truck. Be sure to buy the complete fuel pump module. If you buy just the pump you will be doing this multiple times. Also, if your fuel guage does'nt work, put a new fuel sender in at the same time (if the module does'nt come with it).

The mechanical fuel pump is mounted on the side of the head, centered between the runners of the intake manifold. The intake manifold does not require removal, but access can be tricky. A selection of socket extensions, swivels and open end wrenches can be helpful.

What filter (model number)? what tools? where is the fuel filter on a '94 Voyager?

The Fuel Filter is an in-line filter, located under the right side of the vehicle at the sliding door. Iut looks like a metal soda/beer can.
Tools you will need:
1/2 wrench to disconnect the Battery
Pliers to remove the clips off the Fuel Lines from the Fuel Filter.
Remember to Remove the Gas Cap to release pressure off the Gas Line.
Fuel Filters:
Available at Advance Auto:
FRAM Part #G6566 for about $18.
Puralator Part #F54618 for about $11.
Available at Autozone:
Part #FF703 for about $10.
I'm doing my 94 Dodge Grand Caravan Fuel Filter tomorrow.

Hi I have a similar problem with my dodge ram 1500 1995 it was cutting off every 2-3 hrs in hard driving then it was getting worse and yes it sound like it was getting a lot of air in the intake finally I found a bad fuel pump inside engine compartment is a valve in the gas line where you can check the gas pressure and see if you have the same problem every time I was driving on the freeway I have to be easy on the gas or it will start complaining making this air sound and feel like dead then if I release the gas it will run again but I have to know how much gas and how fast can I go and for how long specially in the freeway so try and see if you have the same problem with the fuel pump

Fuel filter removal for dodge ram 1500 2003 model

The combination fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator is used on all engines. It is located on the top of the fuel pump module. A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used with any engine.
Both fuel filters (at bottom of fuel pump module and within fuel pressure regulator) are designed for extended service. They do not require normal scheduled maintenance.
