How to release brake calipers on vw caddy

Tap the wheel centre sharply with a hammer whilst having someone try drive forward to shock them free, otherwise take the wheel off and gently tap the caliper body itself. Check the handbrake mechanism is releasing properly and that the arms the cable attaches to on the calipers releases fully.

How to remove the rear stub axle on a 98 vw jetta gl drum brakes

Hi
Put car on stands securely and remove wheel.
Release handbrake, Remove brake drum.
Four bolts secure the stub axle, they will be very tight so use a freeze spray penetrating oil...lots of it. Some of these cars use allen head bolts so make sure the allen socket is good quality and is fullyhome before you undo the bolts.
When refitting, check the correct torque setting for these bolts.
These are usually replaced because the bearings have failed nd scored the hard surfaces....so...do fit new..god quality bearings and regrease properly!
Refitting is a reverse...please do clean and adjust brake shoes before adjusting handbrake. And always check your brake cylinders too.
Good luck
Roger
