Question about Cub Cadet Cars & Trucks
Have a 2005 Cub Cadet 7530 tractor. Engine runs fine and can use clutch to shift from forward to reverse. Have 4 gears forward and 4 reverse. Shifted from 3 to 2 and gear shift stuck in middle of H pattern and remains in 3rd gear. Fluid low, so filled it up as needed, still same problem. Tried shifting in forward and reverse as well as shifting from 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive. No change. Any help appreciated.

SOURCE: car will not shift into gear
Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

The forward clutch control valve has a retaining clip that is known to break on these tranny's. This can prevent it from shifting into 4th gear. Good news, the part is five bucks. Bad news, it's in the valve body which takes a few hours to get to. I fixed mine in about 8 hours thanks to great step by step instuctions I found online. Search for "valve body removal taurus tranny". If it's not the retainer clip then it could be one of the solenoids on the valve body. I believe there's one just for 3rd and 4th gear. Good luck

I'm Going to say the low/reverse 1 way roller clutch is broken, you are hearing the low/rev.planetary gear set spinning.it is at the very rear of the tranny, right where it bolts to the transfer case.It may have died of old age but the ones I've broken have been rocking the truck out of snow or holeshots. If that's the only thing wrong,it's a cheap(used) part but the whole transmission has to come apart, lots of labor.
