If you drive your car more likely for short distances then engine will not get hot enough to start the regenerating process to clean the cloged particulate filter resulting in a antipollution fault.
Drive your car to a motorway or empty dual carriage way (best in nights). The temperature meter should be showing above 60°C when you begin with this process. Place 3rd gear and drive your car at 3000-3500 rev /min for 15 to 20 minutes to let the ecu to kick the regeneration process. Keep driving car for 15 minutes in this state will be enough to clean your catalytic converter and your problem will be solved. But if it doesn't then the problem is with your catalytic converter and more probabily you need to change it.

If the Anti pollution warning light is coming on the possible causes are endless. If the car is driving ok then that is a good sign, but please remember that modern management systems can mask problems quite well. The safest advice is to get it looked at and see what fault codes are appearing and then a diagnosis can begin, as leaving it is not going to be a good thing, it can go from a minor problem to more serious issues. At least the light is not flashing, which usually means an emission compliance problem and even more serious, but even so I would advise protecting your vehicle by getting it checked out as soon as possible to avoid potential damage.
A fault in the ignition can cause an engine misfire and unburnt fuel gets into the exhaust causing the anti-pollution light to be triggered.
Check the ignition system for signs of damp or loose connections.------- I suggest get the car scanned at autozone service center. Its absolutely free to get car scanned. This will show the problem if you receive the error code.-------- Thanks.Helpmech.

When the light goes on, keep the car running while you go to an Autozone, Advance, or Oreillys autoparts store for a FREE scan. The anti pollution system is different from the fuel system and easily can cause your symptoms
Obtain the Code number and you can decode it at the store or check online. Usually the fuel filter, if monitored at all, would only reflect a pressure variance from normal in the fuel system. This is not a pollution part.
Most likely someone guessed that the uneven running was due to a fuel filter. In a short time, this had no effect in removing the pollution light.
It did not hurt to change the filter, it just did not solve the problem.
Get the scan while the light is on. You are ahead of things by doing this because many things are not monitored by this system and you can start by fixing the things the warning light tells you about. It may fix everything by doing this. Only after the parts recommended are changed AND the warning light is cleared off the computer will you have to troubleshoot anything that was missed.
I hope my solution is helpful.

When the service engine soon light (Also called the check engine light or engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint" testing.
