Question about 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

Multi-purpose chime the multi-purpose chime in my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban is constantly "chiming". The owners manuel says to use the stock radio and hold down the #6 button; however, the radio has been changed outand that option does not work. I have had to go the the length of disconecting the speakers in teh vehicle in order to keep it from driving everyone in the vehilce nuts. Any idea where the main core of the chime is so it can either be cut out completely or silenced somehow. Of course, until this issue is fixed, there is no radio nor DVD for the kids which makes for very long trips.

Wiring layout on the radio doesn't show a clear wire connection to a chime
http://www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-radio-wiring-diagram-2003-chevrolet-suburban

new unit may not have been wired in correctly
may need an auto electrician to chase the chime wire from the radio and make an on /off toggle switch for you

or source a working original radio

cant take out the chime without electronic mayhem
silver soldered in built in the instrument panel board
as you know chime is used for other warningsmulti-purpose chime - 7097855c-b5f3-49c2-b50d-6ef776dd327f.jpg

SOURCE: rear door speakers don't work w/ aftermarket radio in 94 suburban

You need to attach the blue wire on the stereo harness to the blue and white wire on the car adapter harness. they installed a small amplifier to power the rear door speakers and unless you connect those two wires then the speakers will not work.

SOURCE: 2007 HHR Radio and chimes not working

Check the radio fuse. As unusual as it seems, GM has started having the radio (even though not turned on) generate the chimes and turn signal sounds. If the radio fails, all the chimes fail too.

This applies to other vehicles besides the HHR. My 2003 Silverado had the door chimes fade down so I could barely hear them. The fix was to replace the radio (under warranty, fortunately...).

Is there a way to fix the the turn signal chime and other various chimes on a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt LS, there is no sound from them as well as front speakers?

The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The radio generates the audible warnings through the speaker. The radio receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit. If the radio receives multiple audible warning requests, the warning with the highest priority sounds first. The following lists the audible warning priority and the pulse rate:
?€¢
Fast rate chime (200 pulses per minute)

?€¢
Medium rate chime (150 pulses per minute)

?€¢
Slow rate chime (50 pulses per minute)

The door chime for the sliding door stays on even when the door is closed

Look underniethe dash for a rectangular black box, older chevs had the chime separate to the radio, yours may be old enough that it still has the chime box. If not, it could be the connection at the door or a bad door latch switch, via a wiring diagram you can find which wire diactivates the chime and either splice it or disconnect it, the system could work with continuity or an open circuit.

good luck!

The chime stopped working if I leave my key in or the lights on. The radio works. I wonder which fuse might control this. That sounds like the first place to look. What else should I look for?

First you did not mention trim level or what radio you have asuming you have a RDS radio system since you mentioned your radio did in fact work that gives me the impression you do nt have a WT or base model. If in fact you have a RDS radio the chime only chimes on the one driverside speaker (large one in door not the tweeter) See if that speaker is opperational. If it is opperational and you have the controlls on the steering wheel locate your owners manual and see how to enable the chimes or disable the chime. You or someone may have disabled the chime. Try these two posibilities if they dont work resubmit and I will look into problem farther, it may be in the radio itself.

2007 Saturn Aura XE, the audible alarms can hardly be heard

Good news - they're adjustable. The radio is used to adjust the vehicle's chime level. To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold push-button 6 with the ignition on and the radio power off. The volume level will change from the normal level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back to the default or normal setting, press and hold push-button 6 again. The volume level will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear on the radio display.

Note: Each time the chime volume is changed, three chimes will sound to indicate the new volume selected.
