hi swlilo
first check your transmission fluid level.
to do this first start the car and wait for it to reach normal operating temperature(ie the upper rad hose becomes hot), then with the car parked on a level surface shift the car through each gear slowly twice. check to hear/feel that it is engaging the gears. then remove the dipstick and check the level color and smell of the fluid. If it is low fill it to the proper level a little at a time without overfilling. If it is not bright red/pink color or smells burnt drain and refill the transmission replacing the pan gasket and filter while you have it removed

Does the car have over 60,000 miles? if so have you changed the fluid and filter in the transmission? worn out fluid can cause these and the filter starts to plug and starves the valve body of fluid, hence the delay.

Service the transmission fluid and filter, this may be an issue of a dirty filter and worn out trans fluid, use one of the newer synthetic fluids.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.
