Question about 1993 Geo Tracker

93 geo tracker still overheating

We have replaced the thermostat on the car and had the car checked for leaks. After driving it on the interstate for about 30 miles, it overheats. I ran water through the radiator to try and flush it out, but it still has a problem overheating. The mechanic found no leaks so, now what?

The coolant has to flow thru the radiator to cool the engine. So you could have a faulty water pump where the impeller is not pushing enough liquid thru the radiator.
Or there may be a restriction of air flow thru the radiator.
Or there could be a problem with the exhaust system or something that is causing the engine to produce more heat than normal.

SOURCE: 91 geo storm overheats

Leaks water under the dash or antifreeze. Sounds like it needs a heater core. If you replaced the thermostat it might still have air trapped in it.

SOURCE: How would i know if my overheating problem in my 97 Geo Metro Prizm is a radiator, water pump, blown head gasket, cracked head or a thermostat problem. is there some way i can check for this?

Oil and coolant mixed usually means the engine is damaged.
Blown head gasket, or cracked block - head.
You may have coolant in the engine oil too.
I would not drive it.

What causes a northstar engine to overheat?

Northstars are notorious for having head gasket issues. I can not be sure without having the car in front of me, but I would suggest having them checked by a reputable shop. This is not an easy, or cheap job to have done.

Car overheats while driving but not at idle

I would suspect the head gasket is leaking or the Thermostat is defective or the radiator is clogged, is the coolant clean and green or red (Depending on coolant type). If it is rusty then chances are the head gasket is leaking, the combustion gases are very corrosive and will rust up the engine very fast.

Geo tracker problems

Does it get hotter if you just let it run without driving?
The thermostat you put in, did you make sure to put the solid copper side into the engine block and not the other way around?
Are you running water alone, or have you a proper coolant mixture?
Is the electric fan running all the time?

Sorry, need more info on this one.

Radiator cap on 1999 2.2 cavalier ?

Hi, if you have a leak in your system somewhere, I would suggest having a mechanic look at to find out where the leak is, unless you are able to do the repairs yourself. If there are no leaks found your thermostat is more than likely sticking. This will cause your motor to overheat and would need to be changed. Hope this helps.

My 97 cadillac deville over heated 1 time on the highway. after filling it with coolant i dont have any problems. why did it overheat that 1 time

if you are using coolant that is mixed 50-50 with water, the water will evaporate. If you are having issues and using straight antifreeze without a water mixture, you may have a small coolant leak or a small leak in the head gasket.
